Roast bull and spring festival on Monte di Buja since 1965
On Monte di Buja, in the province of Udine, a tradition has been renewed every spring since 1965: the Fieste di Primevere, now best known as the Sagra del Toro (Bull Festival). Originally called "Sagre di primevere" (Spring Festivals), the event has become an unmissable fixture in the Friulian calendar over the years, drawing visitors not only from Friuli but also from Veneto, Slovenia, and Austria.
The absolute star is the spit-roasted bull, slow-cooked over embers using a technique passed down through generations. It's accompanied by a full menu of traditional Friulian cuisine: fresh polenta prepared on-site, gnocchi with bull ragù, frico with polenta, bull carpaccio, and bull burgers with fries. Pro Buja ensures table service without long queues, thanks to decades of experience.
The Fieste di Primevere are more than just food. Every evening, the stage hosts live music, while the program includes shows, debates, historical-tourist visits, and games for all ages. It's a festival that combines the pleasure of good food with the joy of togetherness, in the scenic setting of Monte di Buja.
Organized by Pro Buja, which celebrated its sixtieth anniversary in 2025, the Sagra del Toro is much more than an event: it's a piece of the identity of the Buja community, an occasion that draws generations of locals and loyal guests every spring.
The 61st edition of the Fieste di Primevere - Sagra del Toro will be held on Monte di Buja during the two weekends of June 2026. Organized by Pro Buja, it will feature spit-roasted bull and Friulian culinary classics, accompanied by live music, culture, and entertainment for all ages.
The event spans two weekends: June 4-6 and June 12-14, 2026, on Monte di Buja.
The detailed evening schedule with band lineups and musical guests will be published on Pro Buja's channels in the weeks leading up to the event.
