Every year at the start of spring, the Casa del Popolo in Fiesole transforms for a few weeks into a local hotspot for food lovers. The Wild Boar Festival is one of those genuine, no-frills events that captures the convivial soul of Tuscany: no stages or glamour, just long tables, mouth-watering aromas drifting from the kitchen, and the simple pleasure of gathering around a steaming plate of food. The event takes place in Fiesole, the famous hilltop village overlooking Florence, right in the heart of the Tuscan countryside.

Wild boar, the prince of Tuscan cuisine

The undisputed star is the wild boar, a historic ingredient in Tuscan gastronomy deeply rooted in the hunting culture of the Apennine hinterland. At the Casa del Popolo, it is featured on an à la carte menu of local specialties, ranging from rich wild boar ragù served with homemade pasta to slow-cooked stews and braised dishes. The event takes place over three consecutive weekends in March. Dinner is served on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, with the kitchen also opening for lunch on Sundays. Given its popularity, booking is highly recommended: a simple phone call to the Casa del Popolo is all it takes. Fiesole is easily reachable from Florence, making the festival a perfect culinary excursion for those looking to combine a walk in the hills with a hearty, traditional country dinner.
