Chianti Classico in the medieval village of Montefioralle
Perched on the hills above Greve in Chianti, in the heart of Tuscany, Montefioralle is one of those medieval villages that seem to have stepped out of an antique print: double walls, cobblestone alleys, stone houses, and a panoramic position overlooking the Chianti Classico vineyards. Every year, in late September, this jewel of the Florence province hosts Montefioralle Divino, the event that has made this tiny hamlet a recognized destination for wine lovers.
The event is organized by the Montefioralle Winegrowers Association, which brings together the wineries of one of the smallest and most prestigious Additional Geographical Units (UGA) of the Chianti Classico. During the festival, local producers open their tasting stands along the streets and in the central Piazza Santo Stefano, allowing visitors to freely sample wines directly from the winemakers.
The common thread is, naturally, Chianti Classico, presented in the three categories that define its quality hierarchy: Annata, the freshest and most immediate expression; Riserva, with longer aging; and Gran Selezione, the pinnacle of the denomination. Historically participating wineries include Altiero, Castello di Verrazzano, Le Palaie, Montefioralle, Podere Campriano, San Cresci, Terre di Melazzano, Terreno, Podere Somigli, and Villa Calcinaia.
Beyond the open tasting stands, the program includes guided tastings led by experts, who delve into vintages and styles with horizontal comparisons between the village's producers: a way to grasp the nuances of a small but surprisingly varied terroir.
Founded in 2015, the event has grown edition after edition to become one of the most anticipated wine tourism appointments in the Chianti calendar. Its success stems from a simple, authentic formula: a few producers, all from the same village, sharing their stories in a setting of rare beauty. For visitors, it is an opportunity to connect directly with the winemakers, far from the crowded trade fairs, and to discover the identity of a special corner of Chianti Classico, nestled between Greve in Chianti and the Tuscan hills.
This new edition confirms the formula that made the event famous: free wine tasting at the producers' stands, gourmet food stalls, and direct bottle sales. The producers of the Montefioralle Winegrowers Association offer Chianti Classico in Annata, Riserva, and Gran Selezione versions, set against a backdrop of medieval alleys and vineyard views.
The event will take place even in case of bad weather thanks to covered areas in the square.
Full details of guided tastings and session times will be published on the official website of the Montefioralle Winegrowers Association in the weeks leading up to the event.

By car from Florence: take the SR222 (Chiantigiana) road to Greve in Chianti, then drive up towards Montefioralle. Parking in the village is limited: we recommend parking in Greve.
On Saturday and Sunday, a free shuttle bus service runs between Greve in Chianti (Piazza Trento) and Montefioralle, approximately from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Entry to the tastings requires the purchase of an official wine glass: 25 euros on-site, or 20 euros if purchased online in advance via the Montefioralle Winegrowers Association website. The glass grants access to unlimited wine tastings.
From 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM on all days. The event takes place even in case of bad weather thanks to covered areas.
