The grand patronal feast of Lesina, blending faith, music, and fireworks over the lake

The Festivities in Honor of Saint Roch are the most awaited event of the summer in Lesina. Every year in mid-August, the Municipality of Lesina — a small town in the province of Foggia, Puglia, nestled on the shores of the picturesque Lake Lesina — celebrates its co-patron with a program that weaves together religious tradition and popular entertainment. Saint Roch, a protector invoked against epidemics and dear to the rural devotion of the Tavoliere and Gargano regions, is celebrated alongside the patron saint, Saint Mary of Merino, and his festivities mark the climax of the village's summer season.
The religious heart of the festival is concentrated on the day of Saint Roch, August 16th, when the town streets come alive from the morning with firecrackers and the festive sound of bells. The marching band parades through the historic center, holy mass is celebrated in the mother church, and in the evening, the solemn procession of the statue of Saint Roch begins, followed by a crowd of the faithful. It is a ritual passed down from generation to generation that represents the most authentic identity of the Lesina community.
Alongside the devotional dimension, the festivities offer a rich calendar of free shows in the town squares: light music and dance concerts, DJ sets, tributes to great Italian songwriters, 90s-themed nights, and cabaret performances featuring well-known television personalities. The central squares and the waterfront transform into open-air stages, while amusement rides, market stalls, and food stands complete the festive atmosphere.
The most spectacular moment is reserved for the fireworks: the pyrotechnic displays, entrusted to specialized firms, light up the sky and reflect on the lagoon waters, offering one of the most evocative sights along the entire Gargano coast. The closing of the festivities, with the grand final pyrotechnic battery, is the iconic image of the Saint Roch festival in Lesina.
Visiting Lesina during the festivities means discovering a unique territory: the lagoon, one of the largest coastal lakes in Italy, the eel, and fishing traditions, just a stone's throw from the beaches of the Gargano. The patronal feast is the ideal opportunity to experience Apulian hospitality at its most genuine and participatory.
The dates and detailed program for the 2026 edition of the Saint Roch festival in Lesina have not yet been released. As per tradition, the festivities will likely take place in mid-August, with the usual religious celebrations (holy mass and statue procession), free concerts in the central squares, and fireworks displays along the waterfront. Check back on this page to see the full schedule as soon as it is published by the Patronal Festival Committee and the Municipality of Lesina.
Lesina is located in the north of the province of Foggia, in Puglia, on the shore of Lake Lesina. By car, it can be reached via the A14 motorway (Poggio Imperiale exit) and the SS16 Adriatica state road. The Lesina railway station is served by the Bologna–Bari Adriatic line.
The festivities traditionally take place in mid-August, around the day of Saint Roch (August 16th).
Shows in the squares and along the waterfront are free of charge.
During the festival days, the center is closed to traffic: it is advisable to arrive early and park in the areas outside the village. Do not miss a walk along the waterfront at sunset and a taste of the local lagoon eel.
