The Ferragosto Festival of Garniga Terme: Sport and Tradition on Monte Bondone

The Ferragosto Festival in Garniga is one of the most cherished summer events in the small municipality of Garniga Terme, in the Province of Trento, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. Nestled on the slopes of Monte Bondone at an altitude of about 800 meters, the village comes alive in mid-August thanks to the efforts of the Garniga Volunteer Firefighters and the Pro Loco, who have for years organized a festival that unites the entire community and the many holidaymakers who choose the plateau for its cool summer climate.

The Giro de le frazion de Garniga

The most characteristic moment of the event is the Giro de le frazion de Garniga, a non-competitive walk that winds through the forests, mountain huts, and landscapes of Bondone, passing through the small local hamlets. The route, offered in two versions of approximately 6 and 11 kilometers suitable for everyone, starts in the morning in the center of Garniga and features food and wine stops that showcase the flavors of the Trentino tradition.

• In the Gatter hamlet: breakfast with barley coffee and homemade jam
• In Zobbio: an appetizer with bread, cheese, salami, lucanica sausage, and wine
• In Valle: the essential canederli dumplings
• In Cires: a coffee break
• In Garniga Vecchia: first and second courses with fasòi in bronzon (beans), polenta, sauerkraut, lucanica sausage, and bacon
• Return to the center of Garniga with a rich dessert buffet

The entire excursion is traditionally accompanied by the notes of an accordion, in a festive atmosphere that combines walking, gastronomy, and folk music.

The Garniga Beach Tournament and Evening Events

Alongside the walk, the Garniga Ferragosto features the Garniga Beach volleyball tournament, held at the village pond in a 3x3 mixed format: two days of outdoor sports with a bar, kitchen, and music by the water, which have now become a classic part of the festival. The program is completed by musical evenings and traditional cuisine stands, serving local Trentino dishes under the festival tent.
