El Nos Nadal — The Christmas of Memories is the festive event that transforms the mountain village of Castellano—a district of the Municipality of Villa Lagarina in the Vallagarina valley, province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige)—every December. For a few days, the village streets and courtyards light up with the scents and atmosphere of the past: the event invites visitors on a journey through the stories, traditions, and flavors of yesteryear, rediscovered together with the local community that preserves them.
A village reviving its traditions
The heart of El Nos Nadal is the village itself: the ancient courtyards of Castellano host art exhibitions, artistic nativity scenes, and traditional delicacies offered by local associations. Between the alleys, you will find music, performances, and creative workshops for children, all within the intimate, family-friendly atmosphere that defines this mountain festival. The event is organized by the Pro Loco Castellano-Cei in collaboration with the village committee and local associations, including the Alpini.
The torchlight procession on Lake Cei
One of the most evocative moments is the torchlight procession on the shores of Lake Cei: at dusk, a parade of torches winds along the lakefront, accompanied by the songs of a mountain choir—in past editions, the Bianche Zime choir from Rovereto—creating a peaceful and reflective Christmas experience. Past programs have also included the arrival of Saint Lucy with her traditional donkey in the village square, concerts in the parish church of San Lorenzo, and puppet shows featuring Santa Claus at the local theater.
A free Christmas for everyone
El Nos Nadal is a free-admission event designed for families and those seeking an authentic Christmas experience away from the large commercial markets. The village of Castellano is accessible by car from Villa Lagarina and Rovereto; parking is available, including space for campers. The 2026 edition of El Nos Nadal is confirmed for December 12–21, 2026, in Castellano, a district of the Municipality of Villa Lagarina. The full calendar, including times, concerts, and events, will be released by the Pro Loco Castellano-Cei closer to the event date; the usual program featuring exhibitions, nativity scenes, traditional flavors in the courtyards, children's shows, and the torchlight procession on the shores of Lake Cei is expected.
