The patronal feast of Alberobello blending faith, tradition, and live music
The Feast of Saint Anthony of Padua is one of the most anticipated events in the calendar of Alberobello, in the Province of Bari, Apulia. Every year, around June 13th, the town in the Itria Valley celebrates the Saint with two days that intertwine religious and secular dimensions, involving the entire Alberobello community in a spirit of shared participation.
The festival revolves around the Parish of Saint Anthony of Padua in the Rione Monti district and represents a heritage of faith, identity, and tradition that unites citizens, the faithful, and visitors every year among the famous trulli, a site recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The spiritual heart of the festival is June 13th, marked by Holy Masses celebrated from early morning until the evening service. At the end of the evening celebration, the solemn procession begins with the statue of the Saint, which travels through the main streets and squares of the town center, accompanied by a marching band. In the days leading up to the event, the community prepares with the traditional thirteen-day prayer cycle (tredicina), a series of prayers and celebrations leading to the Antonian solemnity.
Alongside the religious rites, the festival offers a rich program of popular events: a charity raffle, craft markets featuring goods made by local educational centers, and, above all, the grand evening concert in Largo Martellotta, one of the largest and most popular spaces in Alberobello. Every year, the stage hosts prominent artists from the Italian music scene, with free admission open to everyone.
The Feast of Saint Anthony of Padua is not only a moment of devotion but also an opportunity for the entire citizenry and the many tourists visiting Alberobello during this period to gather. Illuminations, live music, Apulian culinary traditions, and the unique atmosphere of the trulli village make this patronal feast an unmissable early summer event in the Municipality of Alberobello and throughout the Itria Valley.
The 2026 Feast of Saint Anthony of Padua was held in Alberobello on June 13 and 14, promoted by the Saint Anthony Festival Committee with the patronage of the Municipality of Alberobello. On Saturday, June 13, the liturgical day featured Holy Masses in the morning (6:30, 8:00, 10:00, and 11:00 AM) and the evening celebration at 6:00 PM at Villa don Giacomo Donnaloja, followed by the solemn procession through the city streets.
On Sunday, June 14, at 9:00 PM in Largo Martellotta, the grand free concert by Enzo Avitabile took place. The internationally renowned composer and multi-instrumentalist, a two-time David di Donatello winner, delivered a performance blending folk tradition, contemporary sounds, and social commitment.
Alberobello can be reached by car via the SS172 dei Trulli, exiting from the SS16 Adriatica or the A14 motorway (Gioia del Colle or Bari exit). By train, it is connected by the Ferrovie del Sud Est (FSE) line from Bari and Taranto. The nearest airport is Karol Wojtyla in Bari-Palese, approximately 60 km away.
Religious celebrations revolve around the Parish of Saint Anthony of Padua; concerts and secular events are held in Largo Martellotta, a large space in the town center.
Admission to the events, including the evening concert, is free.
