The best of South Tyrolean farm produce at the Kurhaus in Merano
The FarmFood Festival is the premier event celebrating the excellence of farm-fresh products from South Tyrol, hosted in the elegant Art Nouveau setting of the Kurhaus in Merano, an iconic building in this city on the Passirio river. Organized by the Gallo Rosso (Roter Hahn) brand of the South Tyrolean Farmers' Union, the event brings together approximately 90 selected farms and over 900 certified 100% South Tyrolean specialties in a single day.
At the heart of the festival are products bearing the Gallo Rosso seal: alpine cheeses, speck, wines, juices, jams, spirits, and baked goods crafted directly on the farms. Each specialty meets rigorous criteria: use of home-grown raw materials, traditional artisanal methods, small-batch production, and a complete absence of artificial colors or preservatives. The certification process includes blind tastings by independent experts to ensure the highest quality.
The program is designed as a sensory and cultural journey. Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy live show cooking by Gallo Rosso ambassador chefs, who prepare dishes using only farm-fresh ingredients, as well as cooking workshops where participants can get hands-on experience. There is also a strong focus on guided blind tastings, dedicated to cheeses, wines, and speck, conducted in small groups by reservation.
The FarmFood Festival is the result of a collaboration between Gallo Rosso, the Merano WineFestival, and the South Tyrol Food District, with the goal of promoting mountain agriculture and the farm economy. The event highlights a model of sustainable, local production where farmers transform their own raw materials, creating an authentic gastronomic heritage.
A spa town at the foot of the Alps, Merano (in the Province of Bolzano, Trentino-South Tyrol) is the ideal setting for an event that combines farming tradition, food culture, and hospitality. Admission is free with a ticket to be collected online, making the event accessible to families, food and wine enthusiasts, and tourists visiting South Tyrol.
On Saturday, March 14, 2026, the Kurhaus in Merano hosted the fourth edition of the FarmFood Festival from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. On display were over 900 Gallo Rosso certified specialties from about 90 agricultural producers in South Tyrol: cheeses, speck, wines, juices, jams, and 100% local spirits.
The program included three guided blind tastings dedicated to cheeses, wines, and speck, respectively, and a rich session of show cooking (from 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM) featuring Gallo Rosso ambassador chefs, including Tina Marcelli, Manuel Ebner, Juliane Niederstätter, and the Augscheller family. The cooking workshop was led by Thomas Ortler, chef-patron of the Flurin restaurant in Glorenza. Admission was free with online registration.
The Kurhaus is located on Corso Libertà, in the center of Merano. By train: Merano/Meran station is about a 15-minute walk away. By car: take the A22 motorway exit at Bolzano Sud, then the MeBo expressway to Merano; public parking is available in the city center.
Free admission with mandatory online registration on the official website to collect your ticket. Approximate hours: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Show cooking and guided tastings require reservations (limited spots). Some dishes and the gala dinner are subject to a fee.
Book your guided tastings and the gala dinner well in advance. Merano offers numerous accommodations, perfect for combining your visit with a trip to the thermal baths or a stroll along the Passirio river.
