A month of blooms and scents in Romagna
Every spring, the "Augusto Rinaldi Ceroni" Herb Garden in Casola Valsenio, in the heart of the Senio valley in the province of Ravenna, transforms into a grand botanical stage with the Erbe in Fiore event. For the entire month of May, the over 480 species of medicinal, aromatic, and herbal plants cultivated in the garden reach their peak bloom, offering visitors and the curious an experience that engages sight, smell, and taste.
Sensory tours, courses, and workshops
The program alternates moments of discovery with practical activities guided by the garden staff and its long-time director Sauro Biffi. These range from walks among roses, broom, and medicinal plants like sage and thyme, to technical courses on using wild herbs in cooking, and workshops dedicated to natural cosmetics, where participants learn to prepare creams, ointments, and oils from medicinal plants.

- Wild Herbs in the Kitchen: a technical course with a walk in the fields for plant identification and practical activities;
- Scents and Secrets of Herbs: a sensory experience with stories, uses, and benefits of the plants;
- Medicinal Plants and Cosmetics: a workshop on body care in harmony with nature;
- The Scents of the Garden: a creative workshop to create your own natural fragrance.
Lunch in the garden
Among the most anticipated events is Erbe in Fiore: Lunch in the Garden, a tasting lunch that brings edible herbs and flowers to the table, designed to rediscover the authentic flavours of the Romagna meadows immersed in the colours of spring.
A historic garden
Founded in 1938 and located in its current site since 1975 by the will of Augusto Rinaldi Ceroni, the Herb Garden of Casola Valsenio is one of the most important botanical sites in Emilia-Romagna, dedicated to the conservation and dissemination of the heritage of medicinal plants. The Erbe in Fiore event is now a spring classic for the Municipality of Casola Valsenio and the entire Senio valley.
Erbe in Fiore — edition 2026
The 2026 program kicked off on Friday, May 1st at 10 AM with the Floral Aperitif, a guided tour among aromatic plants and blooms followed by the creation of a drink with herbs and flowers picked on-site. On Sunday, May 4th at 9:30 AM, the technical course Wild Herbs in the Kitchen was held, led by director Sauro Biffi. On Sunday, May 11th at 10 AM, it was the turn of Scents and Secrets of Herbs, a sensory experience among roses, broom, sage, and thyme. On Sunday, May 18th at 9:30 AM, the course Medicinal Plants and Cosmetics took place. The event concluded with Erbe in Fiore: Lunch in the Garden on Sunday, May 24th at 12:30 PM, and with The Scents of the Garden, a workshop to create your own natural fragrance.

Getting there
The Herb Garden is located at Via del Corso 6 in Casola Valsenio (RA). By car, it can be reached via the Casolana road connecting Riolo Terme and Brisighella; the nearest train stations are Faenza and Brisighella, from which you can continue by car or bus.
Prices and booking
Entry to the garden is free; guided tours, courses, and workshops require mandatory booking by calling 335 1209933 or emailing [email protected]. It is advisable to check times and availability before travelling.
Tips
Wear comfortable shoes for walks in the fields and bring a hat on sunny days. The garden has a shop with plants and herbal products.
