The bread symbol of Castel Bolognese and the first wine of the season, with markets, music, and flavours of Romagna
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of Romagna, in Castel Bolognese (Province of Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna), the Feast of the Brazadèl of the Cross and of the New Wine is one of the most cherished autumn events. Organized by the Pro Loco of Castel Bolognese in collaboration with the Municipality, the event celebrates the baked product that has been the symbol of the town for centuries: the brazadèl, an unleavened ring-shaped bread characterized by a particular double cooking process, first boiled in water and then baked in a wood-fired oven. This process makes it crispy, fragrant, and able to keep for a long time.
Legend has it that the brazadèl originated as food for smugglers crossing these borderlands: durable and long-lasting, it was perfect for long journeys. Today, it remains an emblem of Romagna's peasant culture and Castel Bolognese's identity, so much so that in March 2026 the festival was awarded the title of "Quality Festival" by the National Union of Pro Loco of Italy (UNPLI), with an award ceremony at the Senate of the Republic. This recognition is reserved for events that authentically promote the territory, traditions, and local products.
Throughout the weekend, the historic centre comes alive with offerings for all ages:
Alongside the brazadèl, the protagonist is the new wine, the first wine of the new vintage, young and fragrant, which arrives on Romagna tables in November. The pairing of the double-cooked bread and a glass of new wine tells the story of autumn in this part of Romagna, halfway between Imola and Faenza, in a single sip and bite.
The Feast of the Brazadèl is an authentic, popular, and family-friendly festival, far from large-scale events: here, visitors come to taste a unique product, listen to good music, and soak up the atmosphere of a Romagna village that proudly preserves its roots.
The new edition of the Feast of the Brazadèl of the Cross and of the New Wine is expected in Castel Bolognese (RA) in November 2026, following the tradition of holding the event on the weekend of the new wine's arrival. Currently, the Pro Loco of Castel Bolognese, the event organizer, has not yet published the official dates and detailed program for the 2026 edition.
Based on previous editions, one can expect two days filled with food stalls offering brazadèl, new wine, and traditional Romagna dishes, a market for reuse and agricultural products, live music in Piazza Bernardi and the Communal Cloister, and workshops for children. The complete program will be announced by the Pro Loco in the weeks preceding the event.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition has not yet been published by the Pro Loco of Castel Bolognese.
Based on the established structure of previous editions, the festival typically spans two days: Saturday with inauguration and historical presentation at the Communal Cloister, vintage car exhibition, opening of food stalls, and evening concert in Piazza Bernardi; Sunday with the reuse and agricultural products market in the historic centre, the "Little Bakers" workshop for children, live music and dancing, and food stalls open all day.
The official dates and final program will be communicated on the Pro Loco website (prolococastelbolognese.it).
