Brisighella's autumn festival dedicated to the native Slow Food presidium pig

In the medieval village of Brisighella, in the province of Ravenna, one of the most evocative locations in Emilia-Romagna and awarded the Orange Flag by the Touring Club, the Festival of the Mora Romagnola Porchetta and Biodiversity Fair is renewed every autumn. The event, traditionally held on the third Sunday of October, transforms the historic center into a large market of taste and peasant tradition, attracting visitors from all over Romagna and beyond.
The absolute star is the Mora Romagnola, an ancient native dark-coated pig breed, once widespread in the Romagna countryside and later on the brink of extinction. Rescued thanks to the commitment of breeders and enthusiasts, it is now a Slow Food presidium appreciated for the quality of its meats and cured meats, with an intense flavor and unique texture. The festival was created precisely to promote this product and tell its story.
Along the village streets and in Parco Ugonia, gastronomic stands offer tastings of porchetta and dishes made with Mora Romagnola, alongside other specialties of Romagna cuisine. Typical cured meats, grilled meats, and local products are also available, paired with wines from the Faenza hills.
Alongside the gastronomic aspect, the event features the Biodiversity Fair, an exhibition dedicated to native Romagnola breeds and the preservation of local agricultural heritage. Among the animals on display are the Romagnola donkey, the Romagnola chicken, and the Romagnola cattle breed, as well as sheep and goats, in an exhibition that combines education and the protection of peasant biodiversity.
The day is enlivened by music, entertainment, and activities designed for families. Among the most popular attractions is the panoramic train, which departs from the historic center and takes visitors on a tour of the surrounding hills and Brisighella's landmarks, such as the Rocca, the Clock Tower, and the characteristic Ancient Donkey Village (Via del Borgo). Strolling through Parco Ugonia and Piazza IV Novembre, you can soak up the authentic atmosphere of a village festival that blends taste, nature, and tradition.
Visiting the festival is also an opportunity to explore one of Italy's most beautiful villages: Brisighella, nestled among the badlands of the Lamone valley, is famous for its three hills crowned by the Manfrediana Fortress, the Sanctuary of Monticino, and the Clock Tower. An ideal setting for an autumn day dedicated to the flavors and colors of Romagna.
The 2026 edition of the Festival of the Mora Romagnola Porchetta and Biodiversity Fair will again celebrate the native Slow Food presidium pig in Brisighella. As tradition dictates, the event will take place between Parco Ugonia and Piazza IV Novembre, featuring gastronomic stands dedicated to the Mora Romagnola, a market of typical products, the Biodiversity Fair with native Romagnola breeds, and the panoramic train to the hills. The official date and full program have not yet been published: it is advisable to check for updates with Pro Loco Brisighella and the local IAT.
By car: Brisighella can be reached from the Via Emilia (SS9) by exiting at Faenza, then continuing along the SP302 of the Lamone Valley for about 13 km. By train: Brisighella station is served by the Faenza-Florence line, a short walk from the historic center.
The event generally runs from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Admission to the festival area is free; tastings and products are paid for at individual stands.
