The festival of caponec and livanze in the heart of Val Concei, Valle di Ledro
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the small village of Enguiso, a hamlet of the municipality of Ledro in the province of Trento, the third Sunday of September marks one of the most cherished events in Val Concei: the Enguiso Festival. Organized by the Pro Loco of Concei, the event attracts visitors every year from across the Valle di Ledro and the Garda Trentino area, drawn by a unique culinary tradition and a genuine, convivial village atmosphere.
The true star of the festival is the caponec, a specialty enjoyed exclusively in the Valle di Ledro: a mixture of bread, herbs, eggs, grated cheese, and lucanica sausage paste, wrapped in vine leaves and boiled. Alongside the caponec, the festival offers polenta carbonera and, above all, livanze, soft sweet fritters served with jam and powdered sugar. The recipe for livanze comes from distant Bohemia: it was brought to the valley by Ledro refugees who, evacuated during the First World War, rediscovered it upon returning to their homes. A dish that tells a piece of the community's history in every bite.
The day follows a ritual that repeats year after year. In the morning, the mass and procession open the festivities, followed by the opening of the food stand featuring caponec and drinks. At noon, the polenta carbonera arrives, prepared in limited quantities by reservation. The afternoon is dedicated to traditional games, such as the Stangata, the foosball tournament, and the distribution of livanze, while from late afternoon, live music accompanies the joy of the square until evening.
Nestled among the mountains of Trentino-Alto Adige, a stone's throw from Lake Ledro and Lake Garda, Val Concei is one of the most picturesque areas of the valley. The festival is also an opportunity to discover the valley's villages and the food and wine richness of Garda Trentino, a land of typical products, Slow Food presidia, and mountain specialties. Participating in the Enguiso Festival means experiencing a community celebration where folk tradition, faith, and good food intertwine in an unforgettable day.
The Enguiso Festival returns in 2026 to the small village of Enguiso, a hamlet of Ledro, in Val Concei. At the moment, the Pro Loco of Concei has not yet communicated the official dates or the program for the 2026 edition: the festival is traditionally held on the third Sunday of September, but for definitive information, it is recommended to follow the Pro Loco's channels. As every year, the festival is expected to celebrate caponec and livanze, specialties that can only be tasted in the Valle di Ledro.
Enguiso is a hamlet of the municipality of Ledro, in Val Concei, province of Trento. By car, it can be reached from the SS240 towards Valle di Ledro, exiting towards Concei and following the signs for Enguiso. The nearest airport is Verona Villafranca; the reference train stations are Rovereto and Riva del Garda (with bus connections).
Admission to the festival is free. Typical dishes (caponec, polenta carbonera, livanze) can be purchased at the food stand; polenta carbonera is available in limited quantities, with reservations recommended in the morning.
Wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for a village square. We recommend arriving in the morning to attend the procession and reserve the most popular dishes.
