A food and wine walk through the trails of Salza di Pinerolo
En Charamlan is the food and wine walking tour that brings Salza di Pinerolo to life every year. This tiny village in the Germanasca Valley is perched at an altitude of over 1,200 meters in the Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont. The initiative combines two classic Alpine traditions: the pleasure of hiking along mountain trails and the joy of fine dining, with stops to taste local delicacies.
The name "Charamlan," in the local dialect, evokes the idea of wandering from house to house and village to village: a convivial walk that crosses the village and its surroundings, stopping repeatedly to sample mountain cuisine specialties. The event's philosophy is well-summarized by the spirit of "Eat, walk, and discover": an invitation to rediscover, step by step, an authentic corner of the Waldensian valleys of the Pinerolo area.
The accessible, short-distance route winds through meadows, woods, and scenic spots in the municipality of Salza di Pinerolo, the smallest and highest in the Germanasca Valley. Along the way, participants encounter various gastronomic stops designed to showcase mountain flavors: from cured meats to alpine cheeses, and from traditional dishes to desserts, all accompanied by entertainment and an exceptional landscape.
The atmosphere is that of a village festival: relaxed, familiar, and deeply rooted in the local community. The Pro Loco of Salza di Pinerolo, the group of volunteers managing the organization, hosts the event in a spirit of friendship and carefree fun, featuring characteristic menus and unmissable musical performances.
En Charamlan is part of the rich calendar of the Pomaretto Mountain Week, a community festival in the Chisone and Germanasca Valleys that offers twelve days of meetings, concerts, excursions, tastings, and reflections on the future of the mountains, centered on the theme of "being a community." The Salza walk is one of the most cherished events of this widespread festival, drawing visitors and hikers to one of the smallest and most picturesque municipalities in the Pinerolo area.
