A series of plays, music, and children's theatre in the intimate setting of Castelluccio dei Sauri
In the small town of Castelluccio dei Sauri, in the province of Foggia, the Cine-Teatro Don Ciccio has long been a landmark for cinema and live performance. Its Theatre Season, promoted by the Municipality in partnership with the regional circuit Puglia Culture, transforms this intimate 97-seat hall into a hub for community gathering, cultural growth, and social interaction for the entire Monti Dauni area.
The festival was born with a clear vision: to bring high-quality programming to a town of just a few thousand inhabitants, featuring nationally acclaimed artists, without the need to travel to large city theatres. In a region like the Subappennino Dauno, where live performance opportunities are precious, the Don Ciccio serves as a cultural stronghold that introduces theatre to audiences of all ages.
The common thread of the season is variety. Alongside drama and comedy, the stage hosts tributes to great Apulian singer-songwriters, such as the homage to Domenico Modugno, and comedic productions that explore modern life and relationships with irony. There is always an event dedicated to the younger generation: matinées for primary schools introduce children to the theatre through the language of storytelling and play.
It is a formula that has made the festival a highly anticipated moment in the cultural life of Castelluccio: a few carefully selected events capable of filling the hall and creating that direct connection between stage and audience that only small theatres can offer.
The collaboration with Puglia Culture, the regional consortium that manages the live performance circuit in Puglia, integrates Castelluccio dei Sauri into a wider network of theatres and seasons. This allows the small Foggia town to host productions and companies touring the entire region, ensuring artistic continuity and quality.
The Theatre Season at the Teatro Don Ciccio is today one of the events that best captures the cultural vitality of the Monti Dauni: an invitation to discover, among the hills of the Capitanata, a village theatre that continues to believe in the value of live performance.
The 2026 Theatre Season of Castelluccio dei Sauri consisted of three events at the Cine-Teatro Don Ciccio, between April 18 and May 9. Promoted by the Municipality in collaboration with Puglia Culture, the mini-festival was presented by Mayor Mattia Azzone and the Councilor for Culture and Tourism Rocco Corlito as "an important moment for our community," capable of strengthening the role of the theatre as a place for gathering and cultural growth.
The programme alternated between original music, comedy, and children's theatre, with nationally recognized artists who filled the small 97-seat hall, the cultural heart of the town.
A Mimmo — a tribute to Domenico Modugno, thirty years after his passing. Featuring Pino Ingrosso, an artist from Salento also known for his long collaboration with Oscar winner Nicola Piovani, who retraces the great hits of the Apulian singer-songwriter with voice and guitar. With the voice of Gino Cesaria and the participation of Daniela Guercia.
Il sogno di Matteo — a show for children dedicated to primary schools, designed to introduce kids to the theatre through the language of storytelling and play.
SPOS(s)ATI — an I Like Puglia production with Antonio Stornaiolo and Daniela Baldassarra. An ironic and sharp comedy that explores the theme of couples, amidst stereotypes, contradictions, and contemporary transformations.
