Jazz, swing, soul, and blues across the slopes and mountain huts of the UNESCO Dolomites
Dolomiti Ski Jazz is one of the most original music festivals in the Alps: a traveling event that blends a passion for skiing with a love for jazz, hosting concerts across the slopes, high-altitude mountain huts, theaters, and local venues in the Fassa, Fiemme, and Cembra valleys, in the heart of Trentino. Every year in early March, black music resonates for ten days among the peaks of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites, offering an experience that weaves together winter sports, nature, and musical culture.
The program follows the rhythm of mountain life. Morning sessions at altitude feature concerts directly on the slopes and sunny mountain hut terraces, accessible even to non-skiers via ski lifts. In the afternoon, the music moves to local bars and mountain lodges, while the evenings see the valley theaters hosting headline shows, alongside jam sessions, parades, and après-ski pub sets.
In the Municipality of Campitello di Fassa, in the Province of Trento, the festival finds one of its key venues at the Birreria Rampeèr, which hosts daytime concerts, while the Baita Rodella 2222 mountain hut completes the local calendar with events amidst the snow. Campitello, nestled at the foot of the Sella and Sassolungo groups, offers one of the most breathtaking settings in the entire circuit.
Under the artistic direction of Enrico Tommasini, the festival attracts nearly a hundred musicians and artists from the Italian and international jazz scenes every year. Alongside national jazz stars, world-renowned guests perform, spanning genres from swing to blues, funk to soul, with a program designed to satisfy connoisseurs while remaining accessible to casual listeners.
Dolomiti Ski Jazz is about more than just music: the Happy Cheese formula pairs performances with the promotion of local products and regional gastronomy, inviting the audience to discover the flavors of Trentino between concerts. It is the festival's way of celebrating the identity of the Ladin valleys, where culinary and musical traditions meet on the terraces of the mountain huts.
Most events are free of charge: concerts at altitude, in mountain huts, and in local venues are open to everyone. The exception is the evening theater shows, for which tickets can be purchased online via the VivaTicket platform. The festival takes place in the Trentino-Alto Adige region and is organized by the Val di Fassa Tourist Board (APT).
The 2026 edition, the thirtieth, marked a significant milestone for the festival directed by Enrico Tommasini: ten days of programming featuring nearly one hundred musicians, 27 concerts, and 25 venues spread across the Fassa, Fiemme, and Cembra valleys. The slogan «emotions in four beats: jazz, swing, blues, and soul» accompanied an international-caliber lineup.
The program featured top-tier names from the jazz scene, including Kinga Glyk, Frank Gambale, Ray Gelato, Pietro Tonolo, Joe Magnarelli, Kirk Macdonald, Logan Richardson, Patrizia Laquidara, Simone Alessandrini, and Evi Mair. In Campitello di Fassa, the Mozes Rosemberg Trio closed the festival on Sunday, March 15, at Baita Rodella 2222.
In 2026, the Happy Cheese formula once again combined concerts with the promotion of typical Trentino products, confirming the spirit that has characterized the festival in the UNESCO Dolomites for three decades.
Ten days of concerts (March 6–15, 2026) featuring morning sessions on the slopes, daytime performances in mountain huts, and evening shows in theaters. Highlights included: Evi Mair Olympus Band at Rifugio Ciampedie, Simone Alessandrini Storytellers at the Nuovo Teatro di Cembra, and concerts by The Killbilly's, Tiger Dixie Band, Logan Richardson Trio, Damiana Dellantonio Quartet, Patrizia Laquidara, Pietro Tonolo, Joe Magnarelli, Kirk Macdonald, Kinga Glyk, Frank Gambale, and the Mozes Rosemberg Trio (Baita Rodella 2222, Campitello di Fassa, Sunday, March 15).
Campitello di Fassa can be reached by car via the A22 Brenner motorway (exit Egna-Ora or Bolzano Nord), following the SS48 road through the Dolomites. The nearest train station is in Trento, which is connected to the valleys by regular bus services.
Admission is free for most high-altitude and local venue concerts. Evening theater shows require a ticket, which can be purchased on VivaTicket.
