A New Year's Eve toast in the heart of Val di Fassa, featuring a torchlight procession, DJ sets, and the Dolomites

In the heart of the Dolomites, the New Year's Eve celebration in the square in Campitello has become a staple of the Fassa winter season. The festivities take place in Piaz de Ciampedel, the main square of Campitello di Fassa, a small town in the Val di Fassa in the province of Trento, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. Here, the last night of the year turns into a massive open-air party, surrounded by snow and the Dolomite peaks acting as a natural backdrop.
The evening's program kicks off in the late afternoon: visitors can stroll through the Christmas markets set up in the square, soaking in the festive atmosphere among stalls of handicrafts and local products. The most evocative moment arrives at 6:00 PM with the spectacular ski instructors' torchlight procession: from the Campitello ski school, a long snake of light descends the slopes, illuminating the evening darkness. Upon their return, there is plenty of hot mulled wine offered to everyone, warming up the wait for midnight.
As midnight approaches, the energy shifts to Piaz de Ciampedel, where the rhythm is provided by DJ Francesco Fontes, a regular fixture of the Fassa New Year's Eve. His set, which blends great dance hits from the 90s to today, accompanied by an impressive visual show on a giant screen, turns the square into one big dance floor. People dance outdoors until late at night, amidst toasts, confetti, and the countdown marking the arrival of the new year.
Campitello di Fassa is part of the Ladin community of Val di Fassa, one of the historic linguistic minorities of Trentino, and the New Year's Eve party well reflects the welcoming and convivial spirit of these mountain villages. The celebration, which is free and suitable for families, groups of friends, and couples, is designed as a lively alternative to dinners in mountain huts and lodges: those who wish can start the first day of the year with a traditional Ladin breakfast and then return to the slopes of the Sella and Col Rodella ski area.
The event is promoted by the Antermoia Cultural Association in collaboration with the Val di Fassa Tourist Board and the Municipality of Campitello di Fassa, and it recurs every year. It represents one of the most attended moments of the local winter calendar, capable of drawing tourists and residents to the square to bid farewell to the end of the year together.
The 2026 edition of the New Year's Eve celebration in the square in Campitello, in Piaz de Ciampedel, is expected in the usual setting of New Year's Eve. As of the time of writing, the official program has not yet been released: updates on times, guest DJs, and side activities will be published by the Val di Fassa Tourist Board and the organizers in the weeks leading up to the end of the year.
Campitello di Fassa can be reached by car from the A22 motorway exit of Egna/Ora or Bolzano Nord, driving up the Val di Fassa. In winter, bus connections are available from Trento and the main towns of the valley.
The party is held in Piaz de Ciampedel, the town's central square, on the night of December 31st. Ski instructors' torchlight procession at 6:00 PM, DJ set until approximately 2:30 AM.
Free admission. Information: Val di Fassa Tourist Board, Campitello office, tel. +39 0462 609620, e-mail [email protected].
