About Fassa Sky Expo

Fassa Sky Expo is Val di Fassa's premier free-flight fair: three days in late September when the Ischia sports area in Campitello di Fassa becomes the meeting point for paragliding and hang-gliding enthusiasts from across Europe. Featuring around twenty exhibition stands, flight tests of the latest gear, take-offs from the 2,400-meter Col Rodella, and evenings dedicated to Ladin cuisine, this free event is organized by the Icarus Flying Team and draws thousands of visitors to the heart of the Trentino Dolomites every year.

Fassa Sky Expo: Free flight in the heart of the Dolomites

Every year in late September, the Ischia sports area in Campitello di Fassa (Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige) becomes the Italian capital of free flight. The Fassa Sky Expo is an exhibition fair dedicated to paragliding and hang-gliding, organized by the Icarus Flying Team association, which has been introducing local youth to the sport since 2011. The event attracts pilots and enthusiasts not only from Italy but also from Germany, Austria, France, and across Europe.

A major gathering of sport and industry

The core of the event is the exhibition: around twenty stands allow visitors to get hands-on experience with the latest market innovations, from wings and harnesses to navigation instruments, helmets, and technical apparel. But Fassa Sky Expo is above all an event to be experienced at altitude. Thanks to the cable car rising from Campitello, pilots reach Col Rodella in just a few minutes—at approximately 2,400 meters, it is one of the most spectacular take-off points in the Dolomites, overlooking the Sassolungo, Sella, and Marmolada massifs.

Hike & Fly and Ladin evenings

The traditional program blends sport, flight culture, and conviviality. Among the historic highlights is a stage of the Hike & Fly Italian League, a competition that combines mountain trekking with flight: participants hike up the trails to the take-off point before launching into the sky. Evenings under the exhibition marquee are dedicated to meetings with flight pioneers and professionals, live music, and tastings of Ladin cuisine, the distinctive gastronomic tradition of Val di Fassa.

A free event for everyone

Admission to the fair is free, and the atmosphere is welcoming even for non-fliers: curious onlookers, families, and tourists can admire the dozens of colorful wings dotting the sky above Campitello, creating one of the most evocative natural spectacles of the Dolomite season. Following the hiatus in 2025 due to the renovation of the Col Rodella cable car, the event returns to its natural home thanks to the new lift system.

Fassa Sky Expo — edition 2026

Following the cancellation of the 2025 edition due to the renovation of the Col Rodella cable car, Fassa Sky Expo is expected to return in 2026 with the new lift system. Official dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the Icarus Flying Team; the event traditionally takes place in the latter part of September at the Ischia sports area in Campitello di Fassa.

The Fassa Sky Expo 2026 marks the return of the free-flight fair to Campitello di Fassa after the 2025 suspension caused by the complete renovation of the Col Rodella cable car. At the moment, the official dates and the detailed program for the 2026 edition have not yet been published by the organizers. As per tradition, the event is expected to be held in the final days of September in the Ischia area, featuring exhibition stands, flight testing, take-offs from Col Rodella, and evenings dedicated to flight culture and Ladin cuisine. For confirmed dates, please check the official Icarus Flying Team channels.
