The patronal festival of Denno held among the doorways, courtyards, and squares of the Val di Non
Den tra i Pòrtej is the most anticipated event of the year in Denno, a municipality in the Val di Non in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). Built around the Festival of Saints Gervasio and Protasio, the village's patronal feast, it transforms the historic center for three days into a grand route through pòrtej — the characteristic doorways, entryways, and courtyards of the ancient houses — animated by dinners, music, tastings, and gatherings.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco Denno with the involvement of all the village associations: youth groups, choirs, drama clubs, sports teams, and volunteers who open their doorways and courtyards to welcome residents and visitors. This is the authentic spirit of Den tra i Pòrtej: a festival built with and for the community, where every corner of the village becomes a stage for conviviality, tradition, and fine Val di Non cuisine.
The program weaves together various forms of expression. Live music ranges from mountain choirs to bands, culminating in major evening concerts in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele. There is no shortage of ballroom dancing, late-night DJ sets, music and circus workshops for children, and theatrical performances by local drama groups.
The delicious heart of the festival lies in the lunches and dinners in the pòrtej, where associations offer traditional menus and local specialties. Among the flavors of the valley, Trentino cheeses, traditional peasant dishes, and of course, the Val di Non apple — the pride of the territory — stand out. On Sunday, after the patronal Holy Mass, the courtyards fill up from noon for the great community lunch.
Den tra i Pòrtej is more than just a festival: it is the moment when Denno tells its own story and celebrates its deep bond with the Val di Non. The award for the best-decorated doorway seals a celebration that enhances the village's heritage and the welcoming spirit of its inhabitants.
The 2026 edition was held from Friday, June 19 to Sunday, June 21 in the historic center of Denno, in the Val di Non. Three intense days that confirmed the vitality of the festival of Saints Gervasio and Protasio, with the village's pòrtej brought to life by associations, volunteers, and visitors.
Denno is located in the Val di Non (province of Trento). By car from the A22 Brenner motorway, take the San Michele all'Adige/Mezzocorona exit, then the SS43 towards Val di Non. By train, the Trento-Malè-Mezzana line (Trentino Trasporti) connects Trento to the valley, with onward travel by bus.
The festival takes place in the historic center of Denno over three days (Friday to Sunday). Access to the festival areas is free; some meals in the pòrtej and certain activities may have associated costs. For the main concert in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, please check the Pro Loco Denno updates.
The historic center is pedestrianized during the event: it is recommended to park in the designated areas at the entrance to the village. Wear comfortable clothing to move between the doorways and courtyards.
