About Dèi Camminanti Festival

The Dèi Camminanti Festival is a major widespread event that brings Vicopisano and Monte Pisano, in the heart of the province of Pisa, to life every spring. For an entire weekend, the village and its surrounding trails are filled with hikes, theatrical performances, exhibitions, workshops, concerts, and walking reflections. Organized by the Dèi Camminanti Association, the festival weaves together hiking, art, and social connection with a simple yet powerful idea: returning to experience nature with slowness, deep listening, and sharing.

A festival that walks through Monte Pisano

The Dèi Camminanti Festival is one of the most original events in the province of Pisa, Tuscany. Its beating heart is the medieval village of Vicopisano, but the event is widespread by nature: activities multiply along the trails and in the towns surrounding Monte Pisano, also involving the municipalities of Calci, Buti, and San Giuliano Terme. The result is a grand embrace within and around the mountain that separates the plains of Pisa from those of Lucca.

Walking as a way of being in the world

Born from the work of the Dèi Camminanti Association, founded in 2015, the festival stems from a precise philosophy: experiencing participation in life through nature, both individually and in relationships, characterized by harmony, slowness, beauty, well-being, listening, and sharing. Here, walking is not just a sporting activity, but a way of looking at the landscape, history, and people with new eyes.

What to expect in the program

Each edition offers dozens of appointments, all designed for different ages and interests. Recurring proposals include:

  • Guided walks and hikes to discover the natural environments and history of Monte Pisano;
  • the "walking and questioning" sessions, reflections on the move with experts and guests;
  • theatrical performances and live outdoor arts;
  • exhibitions and displays throughout the village;
  • workshops for adults and children and activities dedicated to families;
  • concerts and convivial moments to end the days in good company.

An event open to all

The Dèi Camminanti Festival operates on a voluntary donation basis; however, for most events, booking is required, given the organizers' focus on the quality of the experience and small group sizes. It is a model that has allowed the festival to grow over time, becoming a staple of the Tuscan spring calendar and a precious opportunity to discover a territory often off the beaten path of major tourist circuits.

Vicopisano and its village

Making Vicopisano your base means starting from one of the most evocative villages in the province of Pisa, with its Rocca del Brunelleschi and medieval towers. From here, trails climb towards Monte Serra and branch out into the woods of Monte Pisano: an ideal setting for a festival that makes walking its hallmark.

Dèi Camminanti Festival — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Dèi Camminanti Festival took place from Friday, March 27th to Sunday, March 29th on Monte Pisano, with Vicopisano as the hub and events spread across Calci, Buti, and San Giuliano Terme. The 2026 edition of the Dèi Camminanti Festival featured 36 events over three days, centered on the theme "Utopia of Risk. Crossing borders into nature." A reflection on the relationship between human beings and the environment, on the courage to challenge oneself, and on the idea of overcoming one's own boundaries while walking.

The village of Vicopisano was the heart of the event, with activities also held in the territories of Calci, Buti, and San Giuliano Terme, in collaboration with the Regional Council of Tuscany and Cesvot.
