Three days of walking, nature, and culture on Monte Pisano
The Dèi Camminanti Festival is one of the most original events in the province of Pisa, Tuscany. Its beating heart is the medieval village of Vicopisano, but the event is widespread by nature: activities multiply along the trails and in the towns surrounding Monte Pisano, also involving the municipalities of Calci, Buti, and San Giuliano Terme. The result is a grand embrace within and around the mountain that separates the plains of Pisa from those of Lucca.
Born from the work of the Dèi Camminanti Association, founded in 2015, the festival stems from a precise philosophy: experiencing participation in life through nature, both individually and in relationships, characterized by harmony, slowness, beauty, well-being, listening, and sharing. Here, walking is not just a sporting activity, but a way of looking at the landscape, history, and people with new eyes.
Each edition offers dozens of appointments, all designed for different ages and interests. Recurring proposals include:
The Dèi Camminanti Festival operates on a voluntary donation basis; however, for most events, booking is required, given the organizers' focus on the quality of the experience and small group sizes. It is a model that has allowed the festival to grow over time, becoming a staple of the Tuscan spring calendar and a precious opportunity to discover a territory often off the beaten path of major tourist circuits.
Making Vicopisano your base means starting from one of the most evocative villages in the province of Pisa, with its Rocca del Brunelleschi and medieval towers. From here, trails climb towards Monte Serra and branch out into the woods of Monte Pisano: an ideal setting for a festival that makes walking its hallmark.
The 2026 edition of the Dèi Camminanti Festival featured 36 events over three days, centered on the theme "Utopia of Risk. Crossing borders into nature." A reflection on the relationship between human beings and the environment, on the courage to challenge oneself, and on the idea of overcoming one's own boundaries while walking.
The village of Vicopisano was the heart of the event, with activities also held in the territories of Calci, Buti, and San Giuliano Terme, in collaboration with the Regional Council of Tuscany and Cesvot. As per tradition, the program mixed hikes and excursions, theatrical performances, exhibitions, workshops for all ages, concerts, and social gatherings.
