The historic center of Pontedera transforms into a world of comics, anime, and pop culture
Pontedera Cosplay has become a staple of the autumn season in the Valdera area: an event entirely dedicated to pop culture, cosplay, comics, anime, manga, and video games that takes over the historic center of Pontedera, in the heart of the Pisa province, Tuscany. For an entire weekend, Corso Matteotti and the main town squares turn into a massive open-air stage, populated by cosplayers in costume, colorful parades, and themed settings.
One of the event's hallmarks is the division of the center into themed areas, each dedicated to a specific pop culture universe. In previous editions, the town squares have hosted groups and settings inspired by Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, giant Gundam robots, and comic book superheroes, as well as historical fencing demonstrations and areas dedicated to live-action role-playing games.
The heart of the event is the cosplay contest, featuring parades and awards for the best costumes, accompanied by processions along the city streets. There is no shortage of live shows, musical performances, and meet-and-greets with guests from the world of comics and illustration, who have created live drawings for the public in past editions.
Organized with the involvement of local businesses and regional associations, Pontedera Cosplay engages shops, bars, and local venues, which participate with themed window displays, treasure hunts, and side initiatives. The event is an opportunity to discover the town of Pontedera in an unusual and festive guise, combining a passion for pop culture with the promotion of the historic center. Free admission makes it accessible to everyone, from expert cosplayers to families with children.
The dates for the 2026 edition of Pontedera Cosplay are set for September 25 and 26, 2026, as reported by the official Terre di Pisa tourist portal. The event will return to color the historic center of Pontedera with costumes, parades, and settings dedicated to pop culture.
At the moment, the detailed program has not yet been published: the edition's theme, schedules, guests, and the content of the themed areas will be announced by the organizers as the event approaches. Admission, as per tradition, will be free.
Pontedera is easily accessible by train via the Pontedera-Casciana Terme station on the Florence-Pisa-Livorno line, just a few minutes' walk from the historic center. By car, it can be reached via the FI-PI-LI expressway (Pontedera exits). The nearest airports are in Pisa and Florence.
Admission to the event is free. Activities take place in the historic center, along Corso Matteotti and in the town squares. We recommend checking the official channels and the Terre di Pisa tourist portals for the detailed program and updated schedules.
