The Nativity comes to life through the streets of the ancient Teramo village

During the Christmas season, the ancient village of Morro d'Oro, a town in the province of Teramo, Abruzzo, comes alive with one of the most cherished winter events in the region: the Living Nativity in the Village. The narrow streets, small squares, and medieval corners of the historic center become the natural stage for a grand reenactment of the Nativity, where popular tradition and faith intertwine with the daily life of the past.
Along the route, dozens of costumed actors bring the Nativity scenes to life and reconstruct ancient crafts: the blacksmith, the carpenter, the spinner, the baker, and the artisan workshops of yesteryear. The atmosphere is made even more evocative by the lights, the fires lit along the streets, and the participation of volunteers, local associations, and the entire community of Morro d'Oro, which makes the event possible every year.
Alongside the nativity route, there are Christmas markets featuring local products, gift ideas, and handicrafts, while roving musical entertainment helps spread the festive spirit throughout the streets and squares of the village. In recent editions, musical entertainment has also been provided by the dixieland orchestra Seven Sins, bringing joy along the entire route.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco Morro d'Oro with the support of the municipal administration, local associations, and numerous volunteers. Over the years, the Living Nativity has achieved great success, attracting locals and visitors from neighboring towns in the province of Teramo, and has established itself as one of the most significant opportunities to rediscover the historic center and traditions of Morro d'Oro during the holidays.
The dates for the 2026 edition of the Living Nativity in the Village of Morro d'Oro have not yet been made official. Based on previous editions, the event is expected during the Christmas period, usually in late December, with the customary route through the alleys of the ancient village, costumed actors, ancient crafts, Christmas markets, and roving musical entertainment. The detailed program will be published by the Pro Loco Morro d'Oro as the holidays approach.
