Christmas on the Teramo coast

Every year, from early December until Epiphany, Roseto degli Abruzzi transforms into a vast, widespread stage for Christmas celebrations. This seaside town in the province of Teramo, in the heart of the Adriatic Abruzzo region, offers a packed calendar of events involving not only the center but also the outlying hamlets and hilltop villages, from Montepagano to Cologna Paese and Cologna Spiaggia. The result is a festive atmosphere that envelops the entire municipal territory for over a month.

Santa's Village and Christmas markets

The heart of the event is Santa's Village, which opens in Piazza della Repubblica before moving to Piazza della Libertà and the various hamlets, featuring letter delivery, elves, and entertainment for the little ones. The same squares host Christmas markets with wooden stalls, handicrafts, local products, and regional gastronomic specialties. Completing the scenery are the artistic nativity scenes at the Villa Comunale and light installations like the Illuminated House.

Concerts, shows, and traditions

The program alternates between musical moments and live performances: piano and jazz concerts in churches and historic villas, street performers, dance shows, fairy-tale readings in the library, and the unmissable tombolate (bingo games) in the neighborhoods and hamlets. The season concludes with two highly anticipated events: the New Year's Eve Party in the Square, with music and a collective toast to celebrate the arrival of the new year, and the evocative Befana descent from the bell tower on Epiphany, when figures rappel down the bell tower to distribute sweets to children.

A Christmas for families

The festival, curated by the municipal administration of Roseto degli Abruzzi in collaboration with VisitRoseto, is designed primarily for families and children, with most events offering free admission. It is the perfect opportunity to discover one of the most well-known seaside resorts on the Abruzzo coast out of season, enjoying the promenade, the historic center of Montepagano, and traditional holiday customs.
