The floral decoration competition in Bene Vagienna
Every spring, Bene Vagienna, an ancient village in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont, transforms into an open-air garden thanks to the Città Fiorita competition. The initiative invites citizens, shopkeepers, and residents to decorate balconies, windows, flowerbeds, or any corner visible from public streets with plants and flowers, helping to make the town and its hamlets more beautiful and welcoming.
Participation is simple and open to everyone. Each contestant tends to their floral arrangement, photographs it at its peak bloom, and sends the image to the organizers along with their name. Registration takes place in Piazza Botero, where each participant receives a plant to nurture and showcase over the following weeks.
At the end of the competition period, a panel of experts selects the three most original creations. The awards ceremony takes place at Casa Ravera, a prestigious historic residence in the center of Bene Vagienna, where winners receive botanical-themed gifts. It is a festive moment that brings the community together and celebrates the efforts of those who helped color the town.
Città Fiorita was born from the collaboration of various local associations: A.N.P.A., Paese Nostro, the Circolo Beniamino Arci, and the Per il Bene Comune committee. The goal is not merely aesthetic: the initiative strengthens the sense of belonging, involves both the main town and the numerous hamlets of the municipality, and promotes the care of public spaces as a shared asset.
The competition takes place within the setting of one of the most charming villages in southern Piedmont. Bene Vagienna stands on the site of the ancient Augusta Bagiennorum, a Roman city of which the theater, amphitheater, and an important archaeological park remain. Visiting the village during Città Fiorita means combining the discovery of historical heritage with the beauty of flower-adorned balconies and streets, in an experience that captures the identity of this corner of the Granda.
The 2026 edition opens on Sunday, April 26th in Piazza Botero, where citizens of Bene Vagienna can register and receive a plant to care for. The challenge involves the town and the municipality's hamlets: the goal is to decorate a balcony, window, flowerbed, or any corner visible from public streets with flowers.
Photographs of the arrangements, taken at their peak bloom, must be sent by June 21, 2026, including the participant's name. The awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 5:00 PM at Casa Ravera: a panel of experts will select the three most original creations, which will be awarded with botanical-themed gifts.
Bene Vagienna is located in the province of Cuneo, about 35 km from the provincial capital, and is easily accessible by car via the A6 Turin-Savona motorway (Carrù-Bene Vagienna exit). The railway station connects the town to the Bra-Ceva line.
Registration takes place in Piazza Botero; the entry fee is just a few euros and includes a complimentary plant. For information: [email protected] or WhatsApp 338 4870752.
