The international environmental film festival in Turin
The CinemAmbiente Festival is one of Europe's premier events dedicated to environmental cinema, held annually in Turin, in the heart of Piedmont. Established in 1998 and organized by the National Cinema Museum, the festival has made Turin the Italian capital of ecological documentaries, in dialogue with the international Green Film Network. The main venue is the Cinema Massimo, located on Via Verdi, just a short walk from the Mole Antonelliana.
Directed by Lia Furxhi, CinemAmbiente selects dozens of films from around the globe each year, distributed across international competitions and thematic sections. The program weaves together documentaries, short films, virtual reality works, and special screenings with a packed calendar of meetings, debates, and guests: directors, scientists, activists, and communicators who bring the festival days to life.
CinemAmbiente is about more than just screenings: over the years, it has become a forum for discussing major environmental issues, from the climate crisis and melting glaciers to regenerative agriculture and biodiversity protection. A portion of the selection is made available for free online after the festival, confirming the event's educational mission. For Turin and the entire Piedmont region, it is an appointment that combines cinematic culture with civic engagement, with free admission to all screenings subject to availability.
