A month of international contemporary dance across the theaters, museums, and neighborhoods of Turin
Interplay is one of Italy's most recognized contemporary dance festivals and a historic fixture for the city of Turin, in the heart of the Metropolitan City and the Piedmont region. Founded in 2001 and directed by Natalia Casorati, it is organized by the Mosaico Danza Cultural Association and operates as a decentralized festival: for over a month, it weaves together performances, talks, and workshops in theaters, museums, and multidisciplinary spaces, spanning both the central areas and the suburbs of the Piedmontese capital.
Interplay's program fosters a dialogue between the Italian and European scenes, with a constant focus on emerging artists and the latest languages of the body. Each edition brings numerous national premieres to Turin, featuring creations by established choreographers and new voices in contemporary dance, alternating between major productions and site-specific formats designed to interact with their host venues.
The festival unfolds across a network of venues that changes from year to year, including theaters, independent performance spaces, and the city's cultural institutions. Recurring venues in the program include the Casa del Teatro Ragazzi e Giovani, the Teatro Astra, COMBO, the GAM – Gallery of Modern Art, the Mosaico Danza Living Lab, and outdoor settings such as the Imbarchino in Parco del Valentino, as well as the Lavanderia a Vapore in Collegno, a dance residency center for the metropolitan area.
Interplay is not just a calendar of events: it is a cultural project that takes dance out of traditional venues and into the life of the city. The social gatherings before performances, talks with artists and scholars, and participatory workshops make the festival an opportunity for encounter, capable of introducing both passionate audiences and newcomers to the language of contemporary dance. For Turin and Piedmont, Interplay represents one of the most important showcases for international choreographic creation.
The 26th edition of Interplay takes place from May 26 to June 27, 2026, with two special events on July 3 and September 16. Directed by Natalia Casorati for Mosaico Danza, the festival presents 28 performances: 16 creations by Italian choreographers, 12 European productions from seven countries, and five works by non-EU artists from three nations, for a total of nine national premieres.
The program spans three theaters, one museum, and five multidisciplinary spaces – two of which are set in outdoor contexts – reaching both central and peripheral areas of Turin. The edition features four thematic threads: contemporary rituals, political body, wild body, and anatomy of the gesture.
The opening is entrusted to the Belgian company WOOSHING MACHINE with Ma l'amor mio non muore | Epilogue. Among the highly anticipated names are French choreographer Leïla Ka with Maldonne, a nominee for the 2025 International Dance Prize, and the collective (LA)HORDE, leading the Ballet National de Marseille, with People Used To Die alongside Equilibrio Dinamico.
Interplay venues are distributed between the center and the suburbs of Turin and are easily accessible via public transport (GTT metro, trams, and buses). Turin is well-connected by train (Porta Nuova and Porta Susa stations) and by air via Turin-Caselle Airport. On performance evenings at the Lavanderia a Vapore in Collegno, a free shuttle service usually runs from the Fermi metro station.
Tickets for individual shows and any season passes can be purchased online via the Vivaticket platform and through Mosaico Danza channels. Booking in advance is recommended for the most popular evenings.
