About Teramo Christmas

Teramo Christmas, rebranded as Terramè in 2024, is the grand holiday festival organized by the Municipality of Teramo in the heart of Abruzzo. For about a month, from December 8th to Epiphany, the city's historic center comes alive with festive lights, Christmas markets, wooden chalets, an ice rink, and a packed calendar of concerts, shows, and family-friendly activities. This widespread event brings the city's squares and streets to life, with a special focus on local identity and the legacy of Teramo-born singer-songwriter Ivan Graziani.

Christmas in Teramo becomes Terramè

Teramo Christmas is the festival that transforms the historic center of Teramo, the provincial capital of Abruzzo, into a grand holiday village every year between December and January. Promoted and organized by the Municipality of Teramo, the event adopted the name Terramè in 2024—a brand that evokes both the Teramo land and the warmth of its hospitality. For about a month, from the lighting of the festive displays on December 8th until Epiphany, the city offers a widespread program that blends tradition, entertainment, and social gatherings.

Festive lights, the tree, and the ice rink

The scenic heart of the festival is Piazza Martiri della Libertà, where a large decorated tree is set up, along with the highly anticipated ice rink. The streets of the center are filled with festive lights and the wooden chalets of the Christmas market, while Via Mario Capuani sees the return of light installations dedicated to Ivan Graziani, the famous local singer-songwriter, with lyrics from his most beloved songs projected along the street. In this way, the city pays tribute to one of its most iconic artistic figures.

Concerts, shows, and family events

The Terramè calendar is particularly rich in music and live performances. Alongside major open-air concerts, there are events for children, gospel performances, themed evenings, and social gatherings. Highlights of the festival include:

  • the lighting of the festive displays and the tree on December 8th;
  • high-quality concerts and gospel choirs in the city squares;
  • the grand New Year's Eve concert to welcome the new year;
  • events dedicated to children around the Epiphany and the Befana;
  • the traditional Teramo-style tombola, inspired by the local area and Abruzzo's rural heritage.

A widespread festival in the heart of Abruzzo

Beyond Piazza Martiri, the festival involves various locations in the historic center, such as Largo Melatino and the public gardens, featuring installations, an enchanted forest for children, and exhibitions in city spaces. Teramo Christmas is designed as an event for the entire community: it combines the festive atmosphere with the promotion of local traditions, making the capital of Teramo one of the key Christmas destinations in the province and inland Abruzzo.

Practical information

Most attractions and shows are free to attend; some open-air concerts may require a low-cost ticket. The detailed program is released by the Municipality of Teramo each year in the weeks leading up to the start of the festival.
