Tortoreto's Christmas festival featuring an ice rink, concerts, and festive villages
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Natale Tortoretano is the series of events through which the Municipality of Tortoreto, a town on the Teramo coast in Abruzzo, celebrates the end-of-year festivities. It is not just a single event, but a widespread program that transforms the town center, the seaside, and the surrounding hamlets for several weeks into a journey of lights, music, and activities for all ages. The program is promoted by the municipal administration, specifically the Departments of Tourism, Culture, and Territorial Promotion, in collaboration with the Departments of Education and Commerce.
The heart of the festivities is the ice skating rink set up in Piazza Berlinguer, a traditional meeting point for both adults and children throughout the Christmas period. The rink remains open for weeks, with afternoon hours and, on peak days, morning sessions as well. Special attention is paid to inclusion: in recent editions, a special afternoon titled "The Joy of Skating for Everyone" was organized, allowing children with physical disabilities to experience the ice.
The calendar alternates high-quality musical moments with events dedicated to children. There is no shortage of Christmas concerts in local churches—from the traditional Immaculate Conception Eve concert to gospel choirs, symphonic ensembles, and local choral groups—alongside Christmas markets, Christmas villages with entertainment, children's shows, readings, mobile play buses, and workshops. The shopping streets and the seafront are adorned with lights, while the hamlets host dedicated events.
Specifically aimed at families, Natale Tortoretano offers mostly free-entry initiatives, distributed between Tortoreto Alto, the medieval village, and Tortoreto Lido, by the sea. The program accompanies the community from the opening of the rink, coinciding with the feast of the patron saint San Nicola in early December, until the Epiphany celebrations in early January, confirming its status as one of the most anticipated winter events on the Teramo coast.
At the moment, the dates and program for the 2026 edition of Natale Tortoretano have not yet been released. As it is a recurring event promoted by the Municipality of Tortoreto, the calendar is usually made official at the beginning of December. We can expect the return of the ice skating rink in Piazza Berlinguer, Christmas concerts, and children's villages. This page will be updated as soon as the official program is published.
