Christmas in the Square is the grand festival of lights that illuminates the historic center of Sant'Omero, a town in the Val Vibrata area of the Teramo province, in Abruzzo, every December. For over a month, from early December through Epiphany, the town squares dress up for the holidays and transform, as the local Pro Loco likes to say, into "a real Santa Claus village." It is an event designed primarily for families and children, yet it draws visitors from across the entire Val Vibrata region and neighboring provinces.

What to expect

The heart of the event is the ice skating rink set up in the main square—a classic attraction that delights both young and old every year, creating a truly festive atmosphere. Right next to the rink, you will find Santa's Grotto, where little ones can meet Santa Claus, deliver their letters, and experience the magic of the Christmas countdown.

A community festival by the Pro Loco

Behind Christmas in the Square is the passionate work of the Pro Loco Sant'Omero APS, the association that brings the town to life year-round, from the famous Salt Cod Festival to summer initiatives. Christmas, however, is the time when the entire Sant'Omero community gathers in its squares for a spin on the ice, a stroll under the lights, and plenty of activities for children.
