Spicy evenings, music, and animal charity in Ribolla
In the heart of the Grosseto Maremma, in Ribolla, a village within the municipality of Roccastrada in the province of Grosseto, the Chili Pepper Festival has become a staple of the summer season. Established around 2016, the event combines two passions that go hand-in-hand in Ribolla: great food and a love for animals. It is organized by the AVRAI Association (Ribolla Volunteers for Defenseless Animals), whose mission gives the festival a special purpose, as all proceeds are donated to the care and feeding of animals in need.
The festival traditionally takes place over two consecutive weekends between late June and early July, transforming the sports facilities and the Porta del Parco area in Ribolla into a large festival village. Every evening, the food stalls and cocktail bar open at 7:00 PM, while the stage hosts a rotation of concerts, tribute bands, DJ sets, children's entertainment, and shows—all with free admission.
As the name suggests, the common thread of the menu is the chili pepper: volunteers serve traditional Maremma and Tuscan dishes with a "hot" twist, catering to both those who crave a spicy kick and those who prefer milder flavors. The stalls offer first courses, main courses, fried specialties, and desserts, accompanied by local wines and refreshing drinks from the bar.
Over the years, the Chili Pepper Festival has hosted tribute bands dedicated to the greatest names in Italian music, rock concerts, DJ sets, and entertainment shows designed for all ages. The atmosphere is that of a classic village festival: convivial, relaxed, and with free entry to all evening events, plus ample parking near the sports facilities.
The event is presented as an eco-festival, with a focus on environmental awareness and waste reduction. It runs alongside the Animal Festival promoted by AVRAI. Participating means enjoying a pleasant evening while supporting a concrete cause for the animals of the Maremma region.
The 2026 Chili Pepper Festival returns to Ribolla (Roccastrada, GR) over two weekends: June 26, 27, and 28 and July 4 and 5, 2026. As per tradition, the food stalls and cocktail bar open every evening from 7:00 PM with chili-based dishes, followed by concerts, entertainment, and free shows. The event is organized by the AVRAI Association, which donates all proceeds to the care of animals in need.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including the musical lineup for each evening, is typically announced by the organizers and the Municipality of Roccastrada in the weeks leading up to the event. The usual structure includes:
