The summer market for young vendors at the Pala Dean Martin in Montesilvano
The Children's Market is one of the most beloved summer traditions in Montesilvano, a town on the Adriatic coast in the province of Pescara, in the heart of Abruzzo. Every Friday in July and August, the Pala Dean Martin space on Via Aldo Moro comes alive with dozens of small stalls managed directly by children, who become young merchants for the evening.
The formula is simple and has been perfected over nearly thirty years. Participants, aged between 6 and 14, receive a pre-numbered stall upon arrival. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult, who completes the registration form and collects the number corresponding to the assigned spot.
Beyond the fun, the Children's Market is designed as an educational opportunity: it teaches children the value of reuse, money management, social skills, and the joy of sharing. For families in Montesilvano and neighboring towns, it has become a summer ritual—a way to gather in the cool evening air and enjoy a public space dedicated entirely to children.
Each evening is accompanied by entertainment: dance performances, live music, and salsa and merengue choreography by the I Love Salsa school of Montesilvano, as well as guests and local associations like the Italian Red Cross. There are also special events, such as puppet shows featuring stories and legends of Abruzzo, perfect for both children and adults.
The event is promoted by the Municipality of Montesilvano in collaboration with the Amare Montesilvano Cultural Association, chaired by Renato Petra, and is part of the city's rich summer calendar. The Pala Dean Martin, easily accessible and offering ample space, provides the ideal setting to safely welcome families throughout the season.
The 28th edition of the Children's Market takes place at the Pala Dean Martin in Montesilvano every Friday from July 3 to August 28, 2026. The opening evening on July 3 saw the participation of about 60 young merchants, with stalls filled with toys, plushies, and comics.
Each event is enhanced by shows and guests: the inauguration featured dancers from the I Love Salsa school with salsa and merengue choreography, while the following Friday, July 10, hosted a delegation from the Italian Red Cross of Penne. Participation is reserved for children aged 6 to 14, with a maximum price of 10 euros per item and free admission for visitors.
