The urban trail of Cerchio through the village alleys and the Marsica landscape
The Cerchio Urban Trail "Curr Curr P' Circhy" is a competitive race held in the municipality of Cerchio, in the Province of L'Aquila, in the heart of the Abruzzo Marsica region. The 10.2-kilometer course with 400 meters of elevation gain winds through the historic center's alleys and the surrounding landscape, perched on the slopes of Monte Corbarolo near the Sirente-Velino Regional Natural Park.
The title "Curr Curr P' Circhy" is an expression in the Marsican dialect that translates to "Run Run for Cerchio". It perfectly captures the spirit of the event: not just a trail running race, but a true collective celebration involving the village, athletes from across Marsica and Abruzzo, and many mountain running enthusiasts.
The uniqueness of this urban trail lies in the alternation between the urban fabric of Cerchio's historic center—made of stairways, alleys, and small squares—and the trails opening onto the Marsican landscape. The start is set for 6:00 PM, the ideal time to run in the late summer afternoon, avoiding the heat while enjoying the festive atmosphere of the village afterward.
The race is part of the rich Agosto Cerchiese calendar, a program of events that enlivens the village throughout August, including fairs, popular festivals, games, the opening of historic cellars for local product tastings, and fireworks. The sporting event is also linked to the festivities in honor of the Madonna delle Grazie, which are deeply felt by the local community.
The race is organized by UISP Sportpertutti and is open to anyone wishing to challenge themselves on a demanding yet fascinating course. Registrations are handled online via the digitalrace.it platform. The event is a perfect opportunity to discover one of the most evocative villages in Marsica, in an Abruzzo region that has seen a significant surge in passion for trail running in recent years.
