The major summer festival in Luco dei Marsi, in the heart of the Marsica region
Vacanze Luchesi is the summer festival that marks the warmest months in Luco dei Marsi, a town in the Marsica region overlooking the Fucino plain, in the province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo. Created to accompany the summer for both residents and the many locals returning home for their holidays, the event is promoted by the Municipality of Luco dei Marsi in collaboration with local associations, merchants, and the 1975 Class Festival Committee.
The calendar runs from late June through August and September, featuring around fifty events spread across the central Piazza Umberto I, the town's various neighborhoods, and local historical and cultural landmarks. The program alternates musical evenings for all tastes, live shows, cultural initiatives dedicated to literature and art, social gatherings, and recreational opportunities for families and children.
The musical lineup ranges from pop to jazz, with special evenings and performances by local groups, including those part of the traveling Marsi'n Jazz festival. Guests include the award-winning artist Carmine De Amicis. There are also cultural spaces combining literature, art, and conviviality, neighborhood entertainment events under the "Borgo in festa" format, and local and international food and wine offerings.
Ample space is reserved for sports and community gatherings, such as the Sport Week: tournaments, soap soccer, evening bike rides ("Spin Night"), card games like briscola and tressette, foosball, board games, and activities for children with inflatables in the pedestrian area. The program also includes events dedicated to the memory and traditions of the local community.
A key identity element of Vacanze Luchesi is the promotion of the Anxa-Angitia archaeological site, one of the most important places of worship of the ancient Marsi civilization, linked to the goddess Angizia. Throughout the summer, free guided tours and children's workshops are held by archaeologists and specialized staff, offering a chance to rediscover the historical roots of the Marsica territory.
Vacanze Luchesi remains a free-entry event with a strong community focus: an opportunity to enjoy the town squares, rediscover the historic center, and share music, sports, and culture under the summer sky of Luco dei Marsi, in the green heart of Abruzzo.
The ninth consecutive edition of Vacanze Luchesi begins on June 30, 2026, at 8:45 PM on Via dei Benedettini with the theatrical performance "C'era una volta Lucoโฆ โ La Spiazzetta Zi' Scienzine", performed by the students of the "I. Silone" Comprehensive Institute. The program, which features around fifty events spread throughout the summer, combines pop and jazz music, live shows, and cultural initiatives.
Among the most anticipated events is the Sport Week on July 10 and 11 on Viale Duca degli Abruzzi: soap soccer, the "Nicola and Angelo Memorial" at the municipal stadium, the "Spin Night" evening bike rides, briscola and tressette tournaments, foosball, and games for children in the pedestrian area. Also scheduled is a performance by the award-winning artist Carmine De Amicis, evenings from the traveling Marsi'n Jazz festival, and the "Borgo in festa" format in the neighborhoods.
The free guided tours "Journey into the lands of Angizia" at the Anxa-Angitia archaeological site, led by archaeologists from the Limes cooperative, are confirmed, along with workshops for children. The event is organized by the Municipality of Luco dei Marsi with local associations and the 1975 Class Festival Committee. Free admission.
The complete and updated program is published on the social media and official channels of the Municipality of Luco dei Marsi.
