The festival in the historic center of Cagnano Varano, blending taste, art, and local heritage

The Cavù Festival Gargano is one of the most recognizable summer events in Cagnano Varano, a town overlooking Lake Varano in the heart of the Gargano, in the province of Foggia, Puglia. The name comes from the local dialect term used by residents to describe the town's historic center, the Cavuto: it is here, among alleys, arches, and small squares, that the festival comes to life every year during the August evenings.
Founded in 2017 by the Pro Loco of Cagnano Varano, the Cavù has established itself as a beacon of culture, community participation, and regional promotion. The format is that of a "widespread festival": the public explores the Percorso Cavù, an itinerary that winds through the historic center, alternating between food stalls, artisan displays, art installations, and roaming musical performances. Each stop is an opportunity to discover a hidden corner of the village and a traditional Gargano product.
The heart of the event lies in its gastronomic itineraries, designed as a journey through the flavors, scents, and sounds of the Gargano. Alongside the culinary offerings, there is space for artistic contamination, with installations and shows that interact with the town's architecture, as well as live music from groups rooted in folk traditions and world music. There are also guided excursions to discover the springs of Lake Varano and moments dedicated to stargazing, highlighting the festival's deep connection to the promontory's natural landscape.
The Cavù has grown over the years through the shared efforts of many people and local entities, becoming a staple of the cultural history of the Cagnano community. The event involves local associations, artisans, producers, and artists, restoring the historic center's role as a meeting place for a few nights. Walking along the Percorso Cavù means experiencing Cagnano Varano in its most authentic dimension, amidst memory, taste, and creativity.
The Cavù Festival Gargano returns to Cagnano Varano in the summer of 2026 in its usual setting of the historic center. At the moment, the official dates and the program for the 2026 edition have not yet been released by the organizers. Based on previous editions, the event is expected in the first days of August, featuring gastronomic itineraries, artisan crafts, art installations, roaming music, and excursions through the village. Information will be updated upon the publication of the program by the Pro Loco of Cagnano Varano.
The festival takes place in the historic center (Cavuto) of Cagnano Varano, in the province of Foggia, within the Gargano area.
Cagnano Varano can be reached by car via the SS693 and the roads connecting the towns of northern Gargano; the nearest motorway exit is Poggio Imperiale (A14). The reference train stations are located along the Gargano railway line. During the festival, the historic center is pedestrianized: it is recommended to park in the areas outside the village.
Access to the festival route is free; tastings at the food stalls are paid.
