Allegorical floats and handcrafted masks in the heart of the Agrigento area

The Castrofilippo Carnival is one of the most cherished and historic traditions in the province of Agrigento. Every year, in the small town of Castrofilippo, nestled in the Sicilian hinterland, the streets come alive with color, music, and joy as allegorical floats and masked groups parade along Viale Bonfiglio.
The event stands out for two elements that are the pride of the community: the quality of the masks, all handcrafted by the skilled artists and families of Castrofilippo, and the originality of the allegorical floats. These large, traveling floats—the result of months of hard work by local associations—parade along the route accompanied by masked groups, often joined by creations from nearby towns like Canicattì and Racalmuto.
Promoted by the Municipality of Castrofilippo in collaboration with local associations, the Carnival is a defining event that involves the entire community, from schoolchildren to the adults dedicated to building the floats. Unlike other carnivals, Castrofilippo often celebrates after the traditional dates, extending the festive season in the heart of Sicily and attracting visitors from across the Agrigento province.
The 2026 edition of the Castrofilippo Carnival will be held in Castrofilippo (province of Agrigento, Sicily), upholding the tradition that makes this event one of the oldest in the region. As every year, parades of allegorical floats and masked groups are expected along Viale Bonfiglio, along with musical evenings and activities for children.
At the moment, the precise dates and the program for the 2026 edition have not yet been published. To find out the updated calendar, please consult the official channels of the Municipality of Castrofilippo.
