The allegorical float parade returns to the heart of the town
The Castagnole Piemonte Carnival is the major late-winter celebration in this town in the Province of Turin, located on the edge of the Pinerolo plains in Piedmont. The heart of the event is the evening parade of allegorical floats, which travels along Via Torino and through the town center to Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, accompanied by music, confetti, and masquerade groups from neighboring towns.
For Castagnole, the float parade is an event with deep roots in local identity: after an absence of over twenty years due to road infrastructure issues that prevented floats from entering the town center, the event has returned thanks to improvements made to municipal roads. The revival of the parade has brought back a highly anticipated tradition, restoring one of the town's most cherished annual appointments.
The parade features the historic masks of Castagnole Piemonte, the Negusiant and the Filera, symbols of local tradition, alongside numerous guest masquerade groups that enliven the procession. Companies that have participated in recent editions include:
In addition to the parade, the Carnival features a large food & drink area set up in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II and managed by the Pro Loco together with local merchants, offering specialties to enjoy before and after the procession. The evening concludes with a DJ set that turns the square into an open-air dance floor, while children can enjoy inflatables and dedicated entertainment in Piazza Cesare Battisti.
The organization is managed by the Pro Loco of Castagnole Piemonte, with the support of the Municipality, local merchants, and regional associations, including the Red Cross, the Alpini Group, and the Civil Protection. The result is an authentic, grassroots Carnival that celebrates volunteerism and the traditions of a small Piedmontese town, attracting audiences from the neighboring Pinerolo area and the Turin metropolitan belt.
The 2026 Castagnole Piemonte Carnival took place on Saturday, March 7, in the town center, in the Province of Turin. The evening program included the opening of the food & drink area at 7:30 PM in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, the start of the allegorical float parade at 8:45 PM, and a DJ set by DJ Merlo at 11:00 PM. Inflatables were set up in Piazza Cesare Battisti for the little ones.
The parade saw the participation of numerous guest masquerade groups, including the Teste Mate from Villafaletto, the Desbela from Scalenghe, the Amici di Piobesi, the Patela Vache float from Nichelino, and the Amici del Pellice from Cavour, alongside local masks and performers.
The parade and festivities take place in the center of Castagnole Piemonte, with floats departing from Via Torino and the main event hub in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II; children's area in Piazza Cesare Battisti.
By car: Castagnole Piemonte can be reached via the SP139 and the provincial roads of the Pinerolo area, approximately 30 km from Turin. During the parade, temporary traffic diversions may be in effect in the town center.
The street parade and festivities in the square are free to attend; food and drinks are available for purchase according to the Pro Loco price list.
