The masquerade festival in the heart of the Salento region, near Brindisi
The Carovigno Carnival is one of the most anticipated events of the season in the town of Carovigno, located in the heart of northern Salento, in the province of Brindisi, Puglia. For an entire Sunday, the town dresses up in festive attire, and its streets fill with masks, confetti, and music, drawing families and curious visitors from across the region.
The heart of the event is the masked parade, which kicks off from the outskirts of the town and winds through the main streets to reach the central Piazza 'Nzegna, the true hub of the festivities. Here, costumed groups perform for the public in a spectacle of color, choreography, and quintessential Puglian cheer.
The parade is surrounded by a rich entertainment program: children's activities with mascots, DJ sets, live music, and, in recent editions, comedy shows featuring well-known names from the Puglian cabaret scene. The day traditionally concludes with the awards ceremony for the best-masked groups and a grand musical finale in the square.
With free admission, the Carovigno Carnival is specifically designed for families and children, who can safely enjoy a day of fun amidst masks and colors. The event is organized by E20socialvision and represents a moment of strong popular participation, where the community of Carovigno comes together to renew the carnival tradition of Salento.
Known for its Blue Flag status and the nearby Torre Guaceto nature reserve, Carovigno is also a destination appreciated for its local identity: the Carnival is one of the best opportunities to discover the authentic soul of this Puglian town, through its traditions, gastronomy, and Salento hospitality.
