About Santa Claus Comes from the Sea

In Torre Canne, a coastal hamlet of Fasano (Province of Brindisi), Christmas arrives by sea. Every December, the Al Faro Association organizes "Santa Claus Comes from the Sea," a traditional event where Santa Claus lands on the shore in front of the lighthouse after a boat crossing. It is a free, family-friendly festival featuring creative workshops for children, live music, and tastings of local delicacies like the pettolata, blending festive magic with the unique atmosphere of the Apulian seaside.

Christmas arriving from the sea

In Torre Canne, the seaside hamlet of Fasano overlooking the Adriatic in the Province of Brindisi, Christmas has a unique shape: it doesn't descend from the sky, but arrives from the sea. This is the simple and poetic idea behind "Santa Claus Comes from the Sea", the event that brings the coastline at the foot of the monumental Torre Canne lighthouse to life every December. In the late afternoon, as the sky begins to darken over the water, a boat approaches the shore with Santa Claus on board: it is the most anticipated moment, greeted by children and families gathered along the promenade.

A tradition of the Torre Canne community

The event is organized by the Al Faro Association of Torre Canne, which has been hosting this festival for years as a way to bring the small coastal community together. Established in the mid-2010s, the event has now seen over a decade of editions and has become a classic in the Fasano Christmas calendar, included in the wider municipal program "Fasano at Christmas." The day is made possible by a network of local entities: the Italian Naval League of Torre Canne, which assists with the maritime landing, the Sacro Cuore parish, the Monopoli music school, and various local associations, all working in a spirit of volunteerism and participation.

What to expect

The festival is designed primarily for children and families. The typical program includes:

  • Creative workshops for children in the afternoon, with Christmas-themed activities;
  • The arrival of Santa Claus from the sea, the heart of the event, with greetings delivered to the children on the shore;
  • Live music, often performed by young talents from local music schools;
  • Tastings of local products, including the essential pettolata (pettole, traditional Apulian Christmas fritters) and other local specialties.

The charm of Torre Canne in winter

The added value of this event is its setting. Torre Canne is a lively seaside resort in summer but quiet and secluded in winter, dominated by its lighthouse and thermal baths. Seeing Santa Claus cross the sea in this setting, with the coastal lights aglow, creates an atmosphere rarely found in city Christmas markets. It is an authentic, free festival deeply tied to the maritime identity of the village, strengthening the community's sense of belonging and welcoming visitors who choose the Fasano coast even out of season.

Part of the "Fasano at Christmas" program

"Santa Claus Comes from the Sea" is part of the Christmas program promoted by the Municipality of Fasano, which fills the town center and its hamlets with artistic illuminations, shows, and dozens of free events every year between December and January. The Torre Canne event represents its coastal soul, complementing the initiatives held in the historic center and the squares of Fasano.

Santa Claus Comes from the Sea — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of "Santa Claus Comes from the Sea" in Torre Canne has not yet been officially announced. As per tradition, the event organized by the Al Faro Association is expected to return in December on the coast in front of the lighthouse, featuring Santa's arrival by sea, children's workshops, live music, and tastings of local products. Detailed dates and the program will be communicated, as every year, in late autumn as part of the "Fasano at Christmas" program.

The dates and program for the 2026 edition of "Santa Claus Comes from the Sea" have not yet been announced. The event, managed by the Al Faro Association of Torre Canne, is traditionally held in December on the promenade of Torre Canne, a coastal hamlet of Fasano (Province of Brindisi), and is part of the Municipality of Fasano's Christmas program.

The highlight remains the arrival of Santa Claus directly from the sea, preceded in the afternoon by creative workshops for children and accompanied by live music and tastings of Apulian specialties such as pettole. To find out the official date and times for the 2026 edition, it is recommended to follow the Al Faro Association's channels and the announcements from the Municipality of Fasano.
