The Christmas event calendar in Francavilla Fontana
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Magia di Natale is the Christmas event calendar that the Municipality of Francavilla Fontana, in the province of Brindisi, organizes every year to accompany the city from December 8th, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, until January 6th, the Epiphany. For nearly a month, the historic center of the so-called "City of the Imperials," in the heart of the Messapian Upper Salento, transforms into a vast, open-air stage filled with lights, music, markets, street performances, and events dedicated to families.
The heart of the festival beats between Via Roma, Piazza Umberto I, and the streets of the old town, dominated by the Castello Imperiali and the baroque churches that define the urban fabric of Francavilla. The lighting of the Christmas decorations, usually on December 8th, kicks off weeks of festivities, featuring decorated shop windows, nativity scenes set up by local associations, and a program that blends religious tradition with popular entertainment.
Among the most beloved events for children is the European Santa Claus Village set up at Parco Caniglia, featuring Santa's house, small rides, street artists, food stalls, and magic shows. Along Via Roma, Christmas markets come to life with stalls selling handicrafts and local products, while the historic center hosts parades, miniature trains, Santa Claus's descent from the Castle, and initiatives like nativity scenes in shop windows.
Musical programming accompanies the entire period: concerts at the Teatro Italia, bagpipers (zampognari) enlivening the streets on Christmas Eve, gospel choirs, and traditional Salento folk music in the city's basilicas and sanctuaries, culminating in the grand New Year's Eve celebration in Piazza Umberto I with live music. The calendar concludes with the Epiphany celebration, featuring sweets, stockings, and entertainment for the little ones.
With its widespread format and free admission for most events, Magia di Natale has become a benchmark for Christmas in the Brindisi hinterland: an opportunity to rediscover the historical heritage and traditions of Francavilla Fontana and to experience the Christmas atmosphere in one of the most characteristic cities of northern Salento, in Puglia.
As every year, Magia di Natale is expected to return to enliven Francavilla Fontana in the period between the Immaculate Conception and Epiphany, with the usual mix of illuminations, markets, concerts, and activities for children. The dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the Municipality: this page will be updated as soon as the official calendar is published.
Francavilla Fontana is located in the Upper Salento, in the province of Brindisi. By car, it can be reached via the SS7 ter and SS603 roads; the train station is served by regional lines connecting Taranto, Brindisi, and Lecce. The nearest airports are Brindisi-Casale and Bari-Palese.
Events are concentrated in the historic center, between Via Roma, Piazza Umberto I, the Castello Imperiali, and the city churches, as well as Parco Caniglia for the Santa Claus Village.
Most of the events in the calendar have free admission; some performances at the Teatro Italia may require a ticket or reservation. The detailed program is published annually by the Municipality of Francavilla Fontana.
