A Carnival walk through the olive groves of Uliveto Terme, celebrating peace and community
The Carnival of Peace Among the Olive Trees is an event that stands out from the traditional carnival celebrations of the region. In Uliveto Terme, a village in the municipality of Vicopisano in the Province of Pisa, the Pro Loco Uliveto Terme has chosen to give Carnival a deeper meaning, linking it to the theme of peace and one of the defining elements of the local landscape: the olive tree. The result is an afternoon of walking, meeting, and sharing, designed for all ages and set in one of the most picturesque sceneries of the Monte Pisano.
Participants gather at the Church of the Santissima Annunziata in Uliveto Terme. Here, olive branches—the universal symbol of peace—are distributed before setting off on a trail that winds through the olive groves to reach the Frantoio del Monte Pisano, in the Caprona area. The walk, which is short and accessible, is an integral part of the experience: a way to rediscover, at a slow pace, the bond between the community and its land, shaped by centuries-old olive trees and a rich oil-making tradition.
Upon arrival at the oil mill, the program includes official greetings and peace dialogues, featuring shared reflections with guests and local schoolchildren. This educational and intergenerational dimension is a hallmark of the initiative, involving adults, seniors, families, and young people. The event also includes a convivial moment with a snack of bread and olive oil, the star product of these hills, followed by a creative workshop and the actual Carnival party—simple and inclusive, dedicated especially to the little ones.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco Uliveto Terme, in collaboration with various local entities and with the support of the Regional Council of Tuscany. It is part of a wider calendar of Carnival celebrations that animate the entire municipality of Vicopisano, yet it distinguishes itself through its reflective tone and the unique natural setting of the Monte Pisano olive groves. In case of bad weather, the event takes place inside the oil mill, ensuring the program continues as planned.
The 2026 edition was held on Thursday, February 12, in the afternoon. The program kicked off at 3:00 PM with a gathering at the Church of the Santissima Annunziata in Uliveto Terme and the distribution of olive branches, followed by the walk towards the Frantoio del Monte Pisano. The initiative was organized by the Pro Loco Uliveto Terme with the participation of the Regional Council of Tuscany.
Uliveto Terme is located on the left bank of the Arno river, in the municipality of Vicopisano (PI). By car, it can be reached via the SP della Fila and the road along the Arno; by train, the reference station is Uliveto Terme, on the Pisa-Florence line. The meeting point is the Church of the Santissima Annunziata.
The event takes place in the afternoon, approximately from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Admission is free.
Comfortable shoes are recommended for the short walk to the Frantoio del Monte Pisano. In case of bad weather, the event is held indoors at the oil mill.
