The Carnival gnocchi festival in Val Concei, featuring costumes, music, and traditional flavors
In the heart of the Trentino winter, when snow blankets the mountains surrounding the Valle di Ledro, the village of Enguiso comes alive for one of the most cherished local Carnival events: the Carnival Gnocchi Festival. Organized by the Pro Loco of Concei, the event takes place at the former kindergarten in Via dei Concei, drawing residents and visitors together around a simple dish that is deeply symbolic of the mountain farming tradition.
The undisputed stars are the homemade gnocchi, prepared by Pro Loco volunteers following a recipe passed down through generations. Steaming hot and dressed in the traditional way, they are served starting at noon: an explosion of flavor that recalls the genuine tastes of the past, in an atmosphere of festivity and conviviality. It is an opportunity to rediscover a humble yet meaningful cuisine, tied to the seasons and the life of the small communities in Val Concei.
The festival is about more than just food. In the afternoon, around 1:30 PM, there is time for games and music that involve adults and children in a cheerful and carefree atmosphere. In the true spirit of Carnival, everyone is invited to attend in costume: colorful disguises are an integral part of the day and help create the festive mood that unites local families and passing tourists.
Enguiso is one of the small villages in Val Concei, a side valley of the Valle di Ledro, along with Locca and Lenzumo. Since 2010, the area has been part of the Municipality of Ledro, in the Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige region, created from the merger of six ancient municipalities. This mountain corner, not far from Lake Ledro and Garda Trentino, maintains a strong bond with its traditions: the gnocchi festival is an authentic example, where the Pro Loco keeps the sense of community alive through food and conviviality.
The event is free to attend and designed for families: a simple and warm way to experience Carnival away from the large-scale events, immersed in the hospitality of a small Trentino village. It is an ideal appointment for those visiting the Valle di Ledro in winter who want to discover the most authentic and traditional side of the region.
The Carnival Gnocchi Festival took place on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the former kindergarten in Enguiso, Via dei Concei, in the Municipality of Ledro. As per Carnival tradition, participants in costume added color to the day. Admission was free.
