Christmas magic among the vaulted passages and ancient farmhouses of one of Italy's most beautiful villages
The Rango Christmas Markets are among the most beloved festive events in Trentino, renowned for their extraordinary authenticity. Unlike large city markets, there are no prefabricated structures here: the stalls come to life inside ancient farmhouses, tucked away in cellars, stables, loggias, and the characteristic vòlti (vaulted stone porticoes) of the village. Rango is a small hamlet in the Municipality of Bleggio Superiore, perched at an altitude of 800 meters in the Giudicarie Esteriori region, and has been a member of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy club since 2006.
Since the very first edition, the core principle has remained unchanged: exhibitors exclusively offer local products, creating an unbreakable bond between the market and the economy of the Bleggio area and its surrounding valleys. Throughout the rooms and alleys, you will find artisanal creations and local gastronomic specialties. The star of the show is the Bleggio walnut, the first Italian walnut to earn Slow Food Presidium status, which is the key ingredient in the famous walnut cake and traditional loaves. Various food stalls throughout the village offer hot meals, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and lactose-free options.
Strolling through the illuminated houses of Rango is a journey back in time. The daily program comes alive with accordions, Christmas carols, and re-enactments of rural life, alongside scattered nativity scenes, workshops, and activities designed for families and children. For those who enjoy walking, the Walnut Trail tells the story of this product, which is so vital to the local community.
Organized by the Pro Loco Borgo di Rango, the markets also involve the neighboring villages of Balbido and Cavrasto, representing one of the most appreciated Christmas destinations in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Admission is free, and the village is easily accessible via shuttle buses running from Ponte Arche/Comano Terme and Fiavè, with parking available for visitors.
