Excellence Festival of Tumact Me Tulez and Aglianico del Vulture Festival

The dish that tells a community

In Barile, an Arbëreshë village in the Vulture region, province of Potenza, there is a dish that is much more than a recipe: Tumact Me Tulez. These are the traditional tagliatelle of the Albanian community, seasoned with fried breadcrumbs, toasted walnuts, anchovies, and tomato, recognized as a Traditional Agri-food Product (PAT) by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Basilicata Region.

A historic festival

This dish is celebrated at the Excellence Festival of Tumact Me Tulez and Aglianico del Vulture Festival, a historic event organized by the Pro Loco Barile (active since 1966) which will reach its 29th edition in 2025. The event has been designated an Italian Excellence Festival by the Ente Pro Loco Italiane, an award reserved for gastronomic events of the highest value.

The Aglianico festival

Alongside the dish, the star is the wine: Aglianico del Vulture DOP, of which Barile is considered the homeland par excellence. The festival thus becomes a true food and wine festival, capable of uniting Arbëreshë tradition, cuisine, and great Lucanian red wine.

Atmosphere and local context

The event takes place in the historic center of Barile, between the 17th-century Palazzo dell'Orologio and the 18th-century Fontana dello Steccato, and in the evocative Urban Park of the Cellars, the Sheshë, with its tuff caves. Promoted by the Pro Loco in collaboration with the Municipality of Barile, the Basilicata Region, the Vulture Regional Natural Park, and APT Basilicata, it is one of the most anticipated autumn events in the Vulture region.
