A day of wine, local flavors, and music at the historic Duca di Salaparuta cellars in Casteldaccia
Every spring, the historic Duca di Salaparuta cellars in Casteldaccia, in the province of Palermo, open their gates for Cantine Aperte, the most anticipated event in the Sicilian wine tourism calendar. Promoted by the Wine Tourism Movement, which has been guiding enthusiasts and the curious through Italy's unique wine regions since 1993, the event transforms the winery into a festive space dedicated to wine culture, traditional flavors, and the pleasure of gathering outdoors.
Founded in the heart of one of the island's most important wine regions, Duca di Salaparuta is one of the most representative names in Sicilian oenology. During Cantine Aperte, visitors can explore the evocative cellar environments, learn about the craftsmanship behind every bottle, and sample the company's iconic labels, ranging from DOC Sicilia wines to prestigious aged reds.
The day is structured around various experiences designed for every type of visitor, from curious enthusiasts to seasoned wine lovers:
The day is always accompanied by live music, which enlivens the winery garden and creates the relaxed, festive atmosphere typical of Cantine Aperte. It is the perfect opportunity to spend a unique Sunday immersed in the Sicilian wine landscape, just a short drive from Palermo.
The initiative extends beyond Casteldaccia: over the same weekend, dozens of wineries belonging to the Sicilian Wine Tourism Movement open their doors across all seven provinces of the island, in a grand collective event celebrating the growth of regional wine tourism. Visiting Duca di Salaparuta means becoming part of a celebration that involves the entire world of Sicilian wine.
The 2026 edition of Cantine Aperte at the Duca di Salaparuta cellars was held on Sunday, May 31, as part of the 34th Sicilian edition of the Wine Tourism Movement, which for the first time featured over thirty participating wineries across all seven provinces of the island. In Casteldaccia, the day combined guided tours, DOC Sicilia wine tastings, masterclasses organized in collaboration with FISAR, a Slow Food lunch in the garden, and musical entertainment by the group Gli Irrequieti, in a convivial atmosphere dedicated to Sicilian wine culture.
The DOC Sicilia tasting tour included a guided visit and a tasting of five wines (Kados, Sentiero del Vento, Triskelรฉ, Lavico Rosso, and ALA) with small gourmet pairings. The "Duca meets Florio" masterclass, organized with FISAR, featured a tasting of eight wines, including Bianca di Valguarnera, Duca Enrico, and Marsala Vergine and Superiore Riserva.
Highlights included the "Duca meets Florio" masterclass featuring eight excellent wines, the Slow Food lunch in the winery garden, and live music by the group Gli Irrequieti.
