A market in the historic drawing room of Palermo

The Piazza Marina Antique Market is one of the most iconic Sunday morning traditions in Palermo. It takes place in Piazza Marina, one of the most representative squares in the historic center, located in the Kalsa district, just a short walk from La Cala and the ancient port. The stalls are arranged along the entire perimeter of the Giardino Garibaldi, a public garden created between 1861 and 1864, famous for its monumental ficus magnolioides with its impressive aerial roots.

What to find at the stalls

With about eighty exhibitors, the market offers a wide and intriguing assortment that caters to collectors, curious visitors, and casual passersby alike. At the stalls, you can discover:

• small antiques and vintage objects;
• vinyl records, cassette tapes, and 20th-century memorabilia;
• used books, antique prints, paintings, and illustrations;
• ceramics, porcelain, lamps, and home decor;
• wooden toys, coins, and collectible modern antiques.

A relaxed atmosphere among history and ancient ficus trees

The atmosphere is both colorful and tranquil: a Sunday stroll among the stalls blends perfectly with the beauty of the historic palaces surrounding the square, most notably the 14th-century Palazzo Steri (Palazzo Chiaramonte), the former residence of the Viceroys of Sicily. It is a chance to experience the most authentic side of Palermo, filled with bartering, forgotten treasures, and family stories, all just steps away from the area's traditional street food.

When it takes place

The market is a weekly, free event: it is held every Sunday morning for most of the year, generally from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The initiative is organized by the Municipality of Palermo, in Sicily. In case of bad weather or special circumstances, the weekly edition may be subject to changes, so it is always advisable to check before heading there.
