About Cantine Aperte Baglio di Pianetto

Every spring, for the Cantine Aperte event, the Baglio di Pianetto estate opens its gates on the hills of Santa Cristina Gela, just a few kilometers from Palermo. For one day, visitors can stroll through high-altitude vineyards, join masterclasses led by winemakers, enjoy a farm-to-table picnic with typical Sicilian products, and be accompanied by the live music of the Arbëreshë group Shega. It is the most anticipated event of the Wine Tourism Movement in this corner of Sicily.

Cantine Aperte at Baglio di Pianetto

Cantine Aperte is Italy's most important wine tourism event, promoted by the Wine Tourism Movement: on the last Sunday of May, wineries across the peninsula throw open their gates to the public to showcase the work behind the vineyard and the cellar. In Sicily, one of the most evocative destinations is the Baglio di Pianetto estate, nestled among the high-altitude vineyards of the municipality of Santa Cristina Gela, in the Province of Palermo, a short distance from Piana degli Albanesi.

An estate in the Palermo hills

Founded in 1997 by Count Paolo Marzotto, the winery is located in the Pianetto district, where vineyards climb hilly terrain that gives the wines freshness and character. This identity of high-altitude wines is the common thread of the Cantine Aperte day: a discovery of the territory, its Arbëreshë roots, and environmentally conscious viticulture.

What to expect during the day

  • Guided cellar tours: a shuttle service takes visitors to discover the production areas and vineyards.
  • Masterclasses with winemakers: thematic guided tastings dedicated to the different expressions of Sicilian grape varieties and the evolution of the estate's wines.
  • Picnic in the vineyards: a farm-to-table gastronomic proposal featuring local cheeses and ricotta, Slow Food bread, and the famous Sicilian cannoli.
  • Live music: the sounds of the Arbëreshë group Shega from Piana degli Albanesi, blending tradition and modernity, animate the entire day.

The star wines

During the event, you can taste the estate's organic labels, from native whites like Catarratto, Grillo, and Insolia to Nero d'Avola, also accompanied by extra virgin olive oil produced in the surrounding groves. Cantine Aperte at Baglio di Pianetto is the ideal opportunity to combine wine tourism, landscape, and Sicilian culture in a single experience, just a stone's throw from Palermo.

Cantine Aperte Baglio di Pianetto — edition 2026

The 34th edition of Cantine Aperte will be held on May 30 and 31, 2026, throughout Italy. In Sicily, over 30 wineries are participating, including Baglio di Pianetto in Santa Cristina Gela (PA), which will once again open its high-altitude vineyards to the public. The detailed program for the estate (day, times, and activities) will be announced in the weeks leading up to the event.

For the 2026 edition of Cantine Aperte, scheduled for May 30 and 31, the Wine Tourism Movement of Sicily announces a record-breaking edition with over thirty wineries taking part across the island. Among them is Baglio di Pianetto, the Santa Cristina Gela estate that has been participating for years with its high-altitude wine tourism offering.

As in previous editions, the day at the estate is expected to include cellar tours, masterclasses led by winemakers, tastings of organic wines, picnics in the vineyards, and live music. The precise program for Baglio di Pianetto, including dates, times, and ticket prices, will be published on the official website bagliodipianetto.it closer to the event.
