The Christmas market exhibition in the heart of the Arbëreshë community of Piana degli Albanesi

During the festive season, the municipality of Piana degli Albanesi, in the province of Palermo, brings its historic center to life with Natale Arbëreshë, a Christmas market exhibition that celebrates holiday traditions and fosters connection between residents and visitors. The heart of the event is Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, which transforms into a lively Christmas village filled with markets, artisan stalls, and local specialties.
Piana degli Albanesi is the primary Arbëreshë center in Sicily, founded in the late 15th century by Albanian exiles who sought refuge on the island following the Ottoman advance. To this day, the community preserves its language, the Greek-Byzantine rite, and precious traditional costumes, intricately embroidered with gold and silver thread. Natale Arbëreshë is deeply rooted in this extraordinary identity: it is more than just a market; it is an opportunity to rediscover the soul of a unique village, suspended between Sicilian and Albanian culture.
On the opening day, the square hosts local craft stalls and vendors offering regional products, perfect for finding gift ideas, gastronomic specialties, and local creations. The Christmas atmosphere is enhanced by performances, entertainment, and tours of the town's historical sites, creating a journey that weaves together commerce, culture, and community spirit.
A special focus is placed on younger visitors with the «Winter Magic – children's workshops» area, a creative space designed to spark imagination. Alongside entertainers, roving workshops, games, and surprises, there is also Santa's house, where children can enjoy an immersive experience in the spirit of the holidays.
Natale Arbëreshë is held under the patronage of the Sicilian Regional Assembly (ARS), the Municipality of Piana degli Albanesi, the local Pro Loco, and the Chamber of Commerce of Palermo and Enna. The initiative is part of the territory's cultural and tourism promotion efforts, helping to showcase the identity of the Arbëreshë community in the province of Palermo, Sicily, during the holiday season.
The 2026 edition of Natale Arbëreshë in Piana degli Albanesi has not yet been officially confirmed. Based on previous editions, the Christmas market exhibition is typically held around the holidays in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, featuring artisan stalls, local products, entertainment, and children's workshops. The program and final dates will be announced by the Municipality of Piana degli Albanesi and the Pro Loco in the weeks leading up to the event.
