About Boccino d'Oro

Boccino d'Oro is the historic national boccette tournament that draws dozens of players from across Italy to Marsala, in the Trapani province, every summer. The competition takes place in the evocative setting of the Saline Ettore Infersa, on Isola Lunga, amidst windmills, salt pools, and the ferry terminal for Mozia. Organized under the aegis of the Italian Billiards and Bowling Federation (FIBIS), the event blends sport, tradition, and one of the most fascinating landscapes in Western Sicily.

Boccino d'Oro: A Marsala Tradition

The Boccino d'Oro is a well-established fixture in the sporting calendar of Marsala, in the province of Trapani, Western Sicily. It is a national boccette tournamentโ€”a specialized form of competitive billiardsโ€”that has been bringing together enthusiasts and professional players from all over Italy for over three decades. The event is held under the aegis of the Italian Billiards and Bowling Federation (FIBIS) and is supported by the Municipality of Marsala.

A Unique Setting: The Saline of Isola Lunga

What makes the Boccino d'Oro truly special is its venue: the Saline Ettore Infersa, located in the Isola Lunga area along the famous Salt Road that connects Marsala to the Stagnone Lagoon and the island of Mozia. Here, players compete among windmills, salt pools that shift color with the light, and the pier where boats depart for Mozia. It is a rare marriage of sporting competition and one of Sicily's most evocative landscapes.

The Tournament and Its Competitors

The competition typically attracts around sixty participants, featuring elimination brackets leading up to the absolute champion's final. Over the years, the Boccino d'Oro has grown into a benchmark for federal boccette players nationwide, with athletes arriving particularly from the Marche, Umbria, and other Central-Southern regions. Alongside the men's competition, the Boccino Rosa is also held, dedicated to female players.

Sport, Memory, and Territory

The tournament is dedicated to the memory of Giovanni Salvo and is managed by the Saline Ettore Infersa facility, which has established Isola Lunga as the permanent home of the event. For spectators, it is also an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Marsala, immersed in salt culture, food and wine traditions, and the timeless charm of the Stagnone.
