The historic 10km road race through the historic center and waterfront of Trapani
The Trofeo Sale & Saline is a staple of the Western Sicilian running calendar. Organized by G.S.D. 5 Torri Fiamme Cremisi (a FIDAL-affiliated club, code TP173), it takes place every October in the town of Trapani, in the province of Trapani, and in 2026 it celebrates its twenty-ninth edition. The race takes its name from the iconic landscape of the Trapani area: the salt pans and sea salt, symbols of the island's western coast.
This is a competitive 10km road race, laid out on a 2.5km city circuit to be run four times. The start and finish are located along Viale Regina Margherita, near Villa Margherita. The route passes through some of the most characteristic spots in the city: the Dante Alighieri waterfront, the Fish Market area, Via Torrearsa, Corso Vittorio Emanuele, and the streets of the historic center, reaching Piazza Municipio and Piazza Vittorio Veneto. A flat and fast route, ideal for chasing personal bests under the autumn sun of Sicily.
Established in the late nineties, the event has grown to become one of the most popular races in the area, regularly seeing over four hundred athletes cross the finish line. It is a valid stage of the Grand Prix Sicilia and the Trapani Provincial Grand Prix, welcoming all FIDAL categories, from Juniors to Masters. The 2025 edition saw more than 450 runners at the start, confirming the race's deep roots in the local sporting fabric.
Running the Trofeo Sale & Saline means discovering Trapani at a racing pace: the sickle-shaped city stretching into the sea, its Baroque churches, the harbor, and the horizon of salt pans that have characterized this corner of Sicily for centuries. Race Sunday turns the center into a celebration of sport, with crowds lining the streets and the awards ceremony closing the morning. An event that combines competitive spirit, tradition, and a love for the local territory.
The twenty-ninth edition of the Trofeo Sale & Saline is confirmed for Sunday, October 11, 2026, in Trapani. The competitive 10km road race will return to the traditional city course, a 2.5km circuit repeated four times between the historic center and the waterfront, with start and finish on Viale Regina Margherita.
The race is included in the national FIDAL calendar and is open to all competitive categories. The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including start time, fees, and awards, will be announced by the organization (G.S.D. 5 Torri Fiamme Cremisi) closer to the event.
Trapani is accessible by car via the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway. The Trapani train station is connected to Palermo and the island's main cities; the Trapani-Birgi (Vincenzo Florio) airport is just a few kilometers from the center. The start and finish are located on Viale Regina Margherita, near Villa Margherita, in the heart of the city.
The race is competitive and reserved for FIDAL members and sports promotion bodies with a valid medical certificate for competitive athletics. Registration is handled via dedicated platforms (Endu). For information: G.S.D. 5 Torri Fiamme Cremisi, tel. +39 333 1165403, email [email protected].
The 2026 edition is scheduled for Sunday, October 11; the start is traditionally set for the morning (usual time 9:30 AM).
