Italy's longest-running food and wine walk through the UNESCO vineyards of the Langhe
The Mangialonga of La Morra is much more than a simple walk: it is a slow, convivial journey through the Barolo hills, where at every stop, the landscape of vine rows is paired with a traditional Langa dish and a glass of local wine. It takes place in the municipality of La Morra, in the province of Cuneo, in the heart of the Piedmontese Langhe, an area recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The event was born in 1986 from the idea of a group of friends in the Compagnia dei Vignaioli, a brotherhood dedicated to promoting local products. The intuition was simple and brilliant: "Why not go for a walk in the vineyards while eating and drinking?" From that winter evening, the name Mangialonga and the famous logo of the little man skewering sausages were born. Today, after nearly forty years, it is the longest-running food and wine walk in Italy and has inspired similar initiatives in other European wine regions.
The route, covering about four kilometers at a leisurely pace, crosses the vineyards that have made La Morra famous worldwide. Departures are staggered to allow everyone to enjoy the hospitality stops, distributed along the paths between the rows, at their own pace. You will walk while admiring spectacular views, from the famous Barolo Chapel to the hills sloping down toward Alba.
The menu is a tribute to Langa cuisine, built on the zero-kilometer principle with products from La Morra's producers. It starts with an aperitif of local products and white wines, continues with local cured meats and lard, tajarin with meat ragรน, veal morsels in Barolo with grilled polenta, a selection of cheeses from the Cuneo Valleys, and closes with hazelnut cake. Each course is paired with a wine: Dolcetto d'Alba, Barbera d'Alba, Nebbiolo d'Alba, Langhe DOC, Barolo DOCG from the producers of La Morra, and Moscato d'Asti DOCG.
The Mangialonga is also an event with a strong sense of community: every year, over 180 volunteers make the event possible, and part of the proceeds supports local charitable projects. It is a way to discover the authentic Langa, combining the pleasure of the table with solidarity.
The 2026 edition of the Mangialonga of La Morra is scheduled for Sunday, August 30, 2026, marking its 38th edition. The non-competitive food and wine walk winds for about four kilometers through the Langhe vineyards, with staggered departures and several tasting stops. The event takes place even in case of bad weather. Reservation is mandatory.
Along the 4 km route, each stop pairs a dish with a local wine:
