About Atri Carnival

The Atri Carnival brings the heart of one of Abruzzo's most beautiful villages to life with a three-day celebration that combines elegance, tradition, and fun for all ages. The historic center of this town in the province of Teramo hosts the Grand Carnival Gala at Palazzo Acquaviva, a colorful parade of allegorical floats through medieval alleys, and festivities dedicated to children. Organized by the Pro Loco Hatria and the "E. Panetta" ACLI Circle, it is a cherished event for the local community, filled with music, costumes, and creativity.

Carnival in the medieval village of Atri

The Atri Carnival is one of the most anticipated winter events in the area, transforming the historic center of Atri, in the province of Teramo, into a stage of color, masks, and joy. Atri is one of the most beautiful villages in Abruzzo, an ancient city of artโ€”the ancient Hatria that gave its name to the Adriatic Seaโ€”with its medieval alleys, brick houses, and the majestic Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. It is in this evocative setting that the Carnival celebration comes to life, spanning several days and designed to engage families, children, and visitors alike.

A program for all ages

The event, organized by the Pro Loco Hatria in collaboration with the "E. Panetta" Recreational ACLI Circle and supported by the Municipality of Atri, offers a program that balances elegant moments with popular festivities:

  • Grand Carnival Gala in the historic setting of Palazzo Acquaviva, an exclusive evening with music, dancing, and a carnival buffet, where the charm of the festival meets elegance (dress code: mask or formal attire).
  • Allegorical float parade in the historic center, the popular heart of the festival, open to all citizens with creativity, music, and joy.
  • Children's costume party in the hamlet of Casoli di Atri, featuring entertainment and a small parade dedicated to the youngest guests.

Tradition and community

The Atri Carnival is an expression of the village's vibrant community life, which enlivens its squares with numerous traditional festivals throughout the year. The participation of the Pro Loco and local associations makes this event a moment of strong cohesion for the Atri community, attracting residents and visitors from neighboring towns and the Teramo coast.

Atri, a city of art in Abruzzo

Experiencing Carnival in Atri also means discovering a jewel of the Teramo hinterland: the Cathedral with its frescoes, the famous Calanchi (badlands) surrounding the village, and the atmosphere of a town that has managed to preserve its medieval face intact. An ideal destination to combine celebration, tradition, and cultural tourism in Abruzzo.
